Vaccinated Canadian tourists will be able to travel across the land border with the United States starting in November, bringing longawaited good news for New Hampshire businesses, particularly many hospitality businesses that have been struggling since the border was closed in March 2020 at the start of the pandemic.

“For nearly two years, travel across our northern border has been restricted, but it has been clear for some time that these restrictions were no longer consistent with science or common sense,” Congressman Chris Pappas said in a written statement.

Canadians make up nearly 80 percent of international visitors to New Hampshire, and some New Hampshire businesses have been feeling their absence. Those in the tourist industry across the state said the uncertainty about reopening has been challenging.

Sen. Maggie Hassan called the decision to reopen “long overdue.”
