AHEAD of the season of giving, WalletHub ranked the states that are most charitable for 2023. Among their findings, New Hampshire ranked No. 14 overall, scoring high for volunteering and service, at No. 10, but came in lower, at No. 33, for charitable giving. The Granite State scored even lower, at No. 46, for states where people donate a percentage of their income towards charitable giving.

NEW Hampshire seems to donate more of its time, rather than its money, to nonprofits and charities. The state ranked high at No. 3 for people donating a percentage of their time to volunteering their services for local organizations.

THE U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Economic Analysis recently released economic data for 2021, which found that outdoor recreation employment in New Hampshire increased by 13 percent, and the state ranked among the top for outdoor recreation as a percent of total employment.

THE same report found that outdoor recreation — which runs the gamut from hunting, snow activities, boating and fishing, to ATVing, recreational flying, camping and hiking — contributed nearly $2.7 billion to the state’s economy, provided over 28,000 jobs, and added nearly $1.2 billion in wages in 2021.

THE share of Americans who go “cashless” in a typical week has increased by double digits. Today, roughly four in 10 Americans (41 percent) say none of their weekly purchases are paid for using cash, up from 29 percent in 2018 and 24 percent in 2015, according to a new Pew Research Center survey. About six in 10 adults (58 percent) say they try to make sure they always have cash on hand, while 42 percent say they don’t really worry much about whether they have cash with them since there are other ways to pay for things.
