VAPOTHERM REPORTS BIG JUMP IN THIRD-QUARTER REVENUE
The latest Covid surge has resulted in another surge of revenue for Vapotherm, the Exeter firm that sells breathing apparatuses for healthcare providers.
But because of the sheer expense of fulfilling the orders, increased executive compensation and the cost of moving some production to Mexico, the company has suffered millions of dollars in losses.
The company, however, says it is confident that it will continue to grow in the future.
Vapotherm reported that third-quarter revenue increased by nearly 25 percent to $38.1 million, and if you go back another year, the compound growth was 88 percent. Nevertheless, Vapotherm reported a net loss of $13.6 million, 52 cents a share. The main reason was a more than $4 million increase in the cost of generating that revenue and another $5 million increase in expenses, nearly all of it for sales and marketing.
Also tucked in to those expenses was $7.2 million in executive compensation year to date, up from $4.6 million the previous year.
The company expects full-year revenue will reach $106 million, which would more than double the company’s pre-pandemic revenue in 2019.
The revenue boost is a result of the acceptance of Vapotherm high-velocity therapy technology, which was approved as a first-line treatment for those suffering from low oxygen levels. As of Sept. 30, the company has sold the machines to 2,000 hospitals across the U.S. so far this year. This has meant the company had to invest heavily in production, sales and marketing, and educating some 33,000 caregivers how to use the product.
