1. Casella Waste Systems, Inc. has been named a Recovery Friendly Workplace by Governor Chris Sununu. This new initiative recognizes NH employers that provide a healthy and safe environment, employment opportunities and support to employees impacted by substance use disorders, including those in recovery, those who are seeking help and those who may be indirectly impacted due to having a loved one with a substance use disorder.

2. Gilda’s Club New Hampshire, a psychosocial support network for people affected by cancer, welcomes Bank of New Hampshire as the newest member of their Red Door Society, a fundraising campaign designed to help Gilda’s Club establish a sustainable income. As a member, Bank of NH made a funding commitment of $30,000 to Gilda’s Club. 3. For the fourth year, Meredith Village Savings Bank (MVSB) will sponsor The Music Hall’s 2021-2022 School Days Series Season for $10,500, which will allow The Music Hall to offer complimentary tickets, transportation and lunches to visiting schoolchildren. The Music Hall has been a part of the Portsmouth community for 150 years with two venues: an 1878 Victorian-era historic theater and the Loft space. Through community partnerships, The Music Hall subsidizes thousands of tickets each year to make the arts accessible to all.

4. In 2021, The Common Man family raised over $30,000 to help make wishes come true for Granite State children facing critical illnesses through a partnership with Make-A-Wish NH. Proceeds from the Common Man family’s fall invitational golf tournament, along with funds raised from their Rafting for Wishes event in July, were donated to the nonprofit to support their mission of granting a heartfelt wish to children fighting a critical illness.

5. The NH Liquor Commission (NHLC) dedicated its new Claremont NH Liquor & Wine Outlet to Anthony “Tony” Maiola with a plaque to honor his contributions to the state, including his 18-year tenure as NHLC Commissioner. Former New Hampshire Governor John Lynch, along with the Maiola family — including his wife, Elizabeth “Betty” Maiola, son, Joel Maiola, and daughter, Dawn Ranney — and NHLC leadership, took part in the dedication ceremony at the new Claremont outlet celebrating Maiola, who served as NHLC chairman for six years.

6. Friends of Aine — a nonprofit organization providing bereavement support services to grieving children, teens and families — opened its new location at 226 Coolidge Avenue in Manchester last month with an open house. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by Manchester Mayor Joyce Craig, NH State Senator Lou D’Allesandro, the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce and others, who toured the organization’s four age-specific grief support spaces for children and teenagers, ages 4 to 18.
