Montcalm Golf Club, Enfield, has hired Brennan Earls as its first assistant golf professional. He is a PGA Class A member with a specialization in teaching and coaching.

ARCHITECTURE

JSA Inc. recently received the 2021 Rick and Duffy Monahon Merit Award for Design Excellence in Architectural Restoration and Preservation from American Institute of Architects New Hampshire in recognition of the firm’s work on Carey Cottage at Creek Farm, a historic property in Portsmouth. The arts and crafts-style Carey Cottage, built between 1888 and 1892 as a summer home for Portsmouth philanthropist Arthur Astor Carey, was slated for demolition until a community campaign to save it led to a partnership between a local philanthropist and a developer to restore the historic building.

REAL ESTATE

Northway Bank has purchased $25,000 in New Hampshire business tax credits from Lakes Region Community Developers to support the final phase of renovations later this year at 193 Court St., Laconia, the former Walter’s Market building. In 2019, LRCD acquired the building to turn it into its headquarters and a neighborhood center to host events and trainings for tenants in Laconia.

Chinburg Properties, Newmarket, has received the 2021 Energy Star Partner of the Year: Sustained Excellence Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy for the fourth year in a row. The Sustained Excellence award is the highest honor bestowed by the program.

Katherine Kane of Portsmouth has been promoted to managing director of real estate at Resolute Capital Partners, a San Francisco-based private equity firm that invests in and manages investments in energy, commercial real estate and technology. Prior to joining Resolute, she was founder and president of the Maestro Fund as well as Maestro Consulting, through which she ran the state of New Hampshire’s New Market Tax Credit program. She also is currently treasurer of the Portsmouth Housing Authority in Portsmouth.

BUSINESS ORGANIZATIONS

Tabitha Perkins, owner of Winnipesaukee Cleaning, and her daughter, Cortland Findlay, who helps her run the business, recently closed on the purchase of Bear Tree Lodge in Meredith with financing support from the Belknap Economic Development Council. The building will be the firm’s new headquarters and provide housing to staff, they said.

Ovide Lamontagne, a shareholder at Bernstein Shur, has joined the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce board of directors and will serve as the board’s legal counsel.

The Greater Manchester Chamber has been named one of 12 Communications Award of Excellence winners by the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives, an Alexandria, Va.- based association that represents over 8,000 professionals who work for and with more than 1,300 chambers of commerce around the world. The awards are designed to showcase top communications and marketing work of chambers of commerce and similar organizations.

CONSTRUCTION

EnviroVantage, an Epping-based demolition, environmental remediation and indoor air quality specialty contractor, has been awarded a five-year, $95 million multiple award task order contract for the Northeast region by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The company is one of six firms that will vie for individual task orders under a firm fixed-price contract to provide demolition and abatement services in the Facility Reduction Program.

Brookstone Builders Inc., Manchester, recently completed construction of a 2,200-square-foot garage and office space for TDS Telecom munications’ Wilton location. Mark Brockelman was Brookstone’s project manager, and the project’s architect was Strang Architecture, Engineering & Interior Design of Madison, Wis.

Manchester-based Clear Choice Home Improvements has earned HomeAdvisor’s Elite Service Pro Award and has also been listed as one of America’s best door and window dealers by DWM Magazine. The Home Advisor Elite Service Award is presented to home services professionals who have received high ratings for customer service by homeowners.

McLane Middleton has announced the hiring of attorneys John DeWispelaere and Joshua Silverstein. DeWispelaere is an associate in the firm’s corporate department, where he advises businesses on transactional matters. Silverstein is an associate in the firm’s tax department, advising both individuals and entities.

EDUCATION

PhRMA, Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, has awarded a grant of $2,000 to Salem High School’s FIRST Robotics Team, which will use the funds to purchase laptop computers to be used for robot software development, robot control mobile CAD development and performance data analysis at competitions. The New Hampshire Department of Education has begun using Esper Regulatory Technologies’ policy management platform to support its regulatory work, the Austin, Texas-based company announced. The platform will allow the department to centralize its administrative rules process, said Steve Appleby, director of the Division of Educator Support and Higher Education.

TRANSPORTATION

Hooksett-based Merchants Fleet has been named to the Northwestern University Transportation Center’s Business Advisory Council, a group of experts focused on the complex issues facing the nation’s transportation industry. Merchants is the sole representative of the nation’s fleet management industry.

ENGINEERING

Michael Krzeminski was recently recognized for 25 years of service as a member of TFMoran’s landscape architecture department. Krzeminski, who joined TFMoran in 1995 as an assistant land planner/designer, received his New Hampshire Professional Landscape Architect license in 2016 and now heads the firm’s Landscape Architecture Department.

RETAIL

Watermark Marine Supply store on Union Avenue in Laconia has unveiled its newest product, the Sunstream Sunlift SLX hydraulic boat lift. The company said boat lifts prevent corrosion, algae and damage to the hull and provide quicker and easier boarding.

Van Otis Chocolates, a longtime mainstay in Manchester, is opening its first satellite store, a new retail location at 15 S. Main St. in Wolfeboro. The store will be open seven days a week throughout the summer.

Crumbl Cookies, the fast-growing gourmet cookie chain, has announced plans to open its first New Hampshire bakery and store in Webster Square Plaza in Nashua on May 13. Crumbl features warm chocolate and chilled sugar cookies as well as four specialty cookies each week. Owners are brothers Jeff and James Maguire of Nashua and Steve Menzel.

Shipt, an Alabamabased delivery service owned by Target Corp., has launched sameday delivery in the Seacoast area. Retailers offering same-day delivery through Shipt to Seacoast residents include CVS, Petco and Target. The service requires an annual membership that guarantees free delivery on all orders over $35.

GOVERNMENT

Rehrig Pacific has been selected by waste hauler Casella to manufacture and distribute recycling carts made from recycled plastic for the town of Stratham. The town received a grant from The Recycling Partnership to help pay for recycling carts to increase recycling in the community.

HEALTHCARE

Ellen Flaherty, an assistant professor at the Dartmouth Geisel School of Medicine and director of the Dartmouth Centers for Health and Aging, has been named the 2020-21 Edward Henderson Award by the American Geriatrics Society for her work on interprofessional teams. Flaherty has been an AGS member since 1998 and has served as board chair and treasurer during her time with the organization.

William Rider, president and CEO of The Mental Health Center of Greater Manchester, has announced he will retire from the position at the end of 2021.

Rider has been with the center since 1985, when he was hired as a clinical case manager and moved into many different roles until being appointed president and CEO in 2015.

Delta Dental Plan of New Hampshire has announced the election of a new director to its board, Dr. Praveen Mandera of Nashua. He is a general dentist, CEO of New Hampshire Family Dentistry, Manchester, and an officer and dentist in the U.S. Army Reserves.

Attorney Brian Duffy of Brentwood has been promoted to vice president and general counsel of Northeast Delta Dental. He previously was associate general counsel, and prior to that Duffy was an associate in Nixon Peabody’s Manchester office.

The Society of Surgical Oncology has announced that Sandra L. Wong has been named its president-elect. Wong, a surgical oncologist, is chair of the Department of Surgery at Dartmouth-Hitchcock and the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth.

Cheshire Medical Center, Keene, recently replaced approximately 2,500 fluorescent light bulbs with new LED lights. In addition to energy and cost savings, the new lights will also create a more comfortable environment for employees, helping to increase productivity, the hospital said. The project was completed in partnership with Eversource and Hamblet Electric of Keene.

MANUFACTURING

Approved Sheet Metal, a sheet metal fabrication company based in Hudson, has acquired Nashua Fabrication Inc., a complementary business that Approved says will add to its list of services and capabilities. All 10 employees of Nashua Fabrication have joined Approved, which now has 36 employees, and over the next several months the company will relocate to Nashua Fabrication’s facility in Hudson.

NEMO, a Dover-based designer and manufacturer of outdoor gear and accessories, recently won four international awards for three new products and a project to eliminate polybag use. The company won the GOOD Green Design Award from the Chicago Anthenaeum & The European Centre for the Chipper seat pad and its 100K Polybag Elimination Project, and the iF Design Award was given to both the Moonlite recliner and Moonlander adjustable height table.

Rochester-based Laars Heating Systems, a manufacturer of residential and commercial heating products, has introduced high-efficiency floor-standing FT Series Combination Boiler and Water Heater, which it says uses advanced smart technology that coordinates uninterrupted space heating with domestic hot water demand and ensures continuing hot water supply for multiple heating events.

NONPROFITS

Bank of New Hampshire has entered a one-year partnership with the New Hampshire Food Bank in support of its Mobile Food Pantry program. The bank’s annual giving focus has been implemented within the bank’s Corporate Giving Program to concentrate monetary donations and volunteer efforts on a specific need to better serve the community in a more measurable way. The 2021 giving focus for Bank of New Hampshire is food insecurity.

New Hampshire Hunger Solutions has named Laura Milliken as its new executive director and Jessica Gorhan as deputy director. Milliken previously was director of Spark NH, the state’s first governor-appointed early childhood advisory council for nine years. Gorhan previously worked as executive director of the Greater Nashua Food Council. Founded in 2017, Spark NH works to address the root causes of hunger in New Hampshire.

Monadnock United Way has named Ed Guyot, partner in the public accounting firm of John G. Burk & Associates, Keene, as chair of its board of directors. He has been a member of the MUW board since 2017.

United Way of Greater Nashua has successfully distributed Emergency Food and Shelter Program Grant funds to local service agencies that needed supplemental funds to assist with meeting their agency’s objectives. The grants were made possible due to federal funds awarded to Hillsborough County. Receiving funds were: Catholic Charities’ Care Givers program, Family Promise, FIT-New Horizons, Front Door Agency, Granite YMCA, Grow Nashua, Harbor Care, Keystone Hall, Nashua PAL, NSKS, SHARE Outreach, ORIS, St. John Neumann, Salvation Army Manchester, Salvation Army Nashua, St. Joseph Hospital Employee Pantry, SNHS, The Way Home, Town of Peterborough Meals to Go, Victory Women of Vision, Waypoint and YWCA Manchester.

The YMCA of Greater Nashua has announced that Anne M. Cushing of Amherst and Susan B. Whittemore of Pepperell, Mass., have joined its board of directors. Cushing is founding member of Kindred, a business strategy consulting firm, and Whittemore is vice president at Starburst Data, a private data technology company, located in Boston.

The Grafton County Senior Citizens Council Inc. recently elected four new board members to its board of directors: Bill Karkheck, Bridgewater, a commercial business representative with Dead River Company; Shauna Kimball, a retired Woodsville High School guidance counselor; Samantha Norrie, Littleton, a residential mortgage lender at Union Bank; and Christine St. Laurent, Campton, a retired nurse and community health specialist.

The Berlin & Coos County Historical Society has acquired the former Fleury-Patry Funeral home building, located at the corner of High and School streets in downtown Berlin. The society said the building, which is across from Moffett House Museum, will provide exhibition, lecture and storage space for the organization. The acquisition was made possible by a donation by the building’s owner, RJE Properties. Fleury-Patry Funeral Home had operated at the site since 1946, but the business was recently purchased by Bryant Funeral Homes.

TECHNOLOGY

Portsmouth-based Senet Inc., a provider of cloud-based software and services platforms that enable connectivity and network build-outs related to the internet of things, has announced a new partnership with Lorax Systems Inc., a safety and environmental solutions company, to improve the ability for utility companies to monitor and prevent potentially hazardous natural gas incidents. Through the collaboration, the companies have certified Lorax’s meter and service shutoff valves on Senet’s LoRaWAN network, which gives utilities 24/7 monitoring with automatic and remote gas shut-off capabilities when hazardous conditions have been detected at any location using Senet’s Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) connectivity, Senet said.

Newton, NH-based Hey DAN, a voice-to-CRM solutions provider, has acquired Fugent, a Columbus, Ohio-based sales engagement management platform. The acquisition strengthens Hey DAN’s suite of sales enablement services, the company said.

Claremont-based IT firm Red River has been selected as a 2021 U.S. Best Managed Company by Deloitte Private and the Wall Street Journal. The program recognizes outstanding U.S. private companies and the achievements of their management teams.

Two New Hampshire companies are among 14 suppliers recently honored by BAE Systems’ Electronic Systems for best-inclass performance for achieving on-time delivery and quality standards in 2020: Linear & Metric Co., Londonderry, a supplier of machined parts and mechanical assemblies, and G5 Infrared LLC, Hudson, a supplier of infrared applications.

Emerald Electronics Manufacturing Services has announced that its DataED facility in Salem has become the third of its manufacturing sites to attain the AS9100-2016 Rev D certification, a qualitycontrol standard for serving the aerospace and defense market. Two other Emerald EMS manufacturing sites — Saline Lectronics in Saline, Mich., and Veris Manufacturing in Brea, Calif. — also hold the certification.

Dr. William Kassler, most recently deputy chief health officer and chief medical officer of Government Health and Human Services at IBM Watson Health, has been named chief medical officer of Palantir, the Peter Theil-chaired developer of analytics software. Kassler is also former chief medical officer at the New England regional office of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and before that was president of the New Hampshire Medical Society.

Spaitr, a sports AI tracker developed by students at the University of New Hampshire, is among 25 teams from colleges across the country vying for $215,000 in prizes in the e-Fest competition, sponsored by the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation, the Schulze School of Entrepreneurship at the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis, Minn., and EIX.org.

Spaitr was co-founded by Nathaniel Hunt, Nicolas Camara, Brady Esmaili and Joey Neleber. Last summer, they won a $16,000 seed grant from the ECenter at UNH.

Northeast Credit Union has announced the promotion of Ana Foret to senior vice president, chief risk officer, and Stephanie Koch to assistant vice president of risk management. In addition, Northeast Credit Union has named Greta Burgess as the new branch manager of its Portsmouth Naval Shipyard location.

Ledyard National Bank has been selected to participate in two programs offered by the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston — the Equity Builder Program, which assists local homebuyers with down-payment and closing costs, and Housing Our Workforce, provides downpayment assistance to homebuyers earning more than 80% and up to 120% of the area median income. Equity Builder borrowers are eligible to receive up to $15,000 in assistance on a first-come-firstserved basis. Housing Our Workforce participants can receive up to $10,000 per homebuyer. Burlington, Mass.- based fintech firm ZSuite Technologies is partnering with five Northeast banks — including Laconia-based Bank of New Hampshire — in developing ZEscrow, a responsive web app for digital commercial escrow and sub-accounting. ZSuite said the app is aimed at easing conventional escrow and sub-accounting processes, which it says are manual and resource intensive. Besides Bank of New Hampshire, ZSuite is working with Haven Savings Bank of Connecticut, Kearny Bank of New Jersey, Leader Bank and Patriot Bank of Massachusetts.

Angela M. Ferris of Raymond has joined Meredith Village Savings Bank as vice president, commercial lending. She is based out of the bank’s Portsmouth office at 2839 Lafayette Road.

Birchwood Credit Services, North Conway, a national provider of mortgage credit reporting services, has announced the addition of Matt Scott as the new director of marketing and digital enablement. In addition, the firm has announced several promotions: Kathleen Brady, former operations manager, has been promoted to vice president of bureau and operations administration; Scott Cooper, former regional sales manager, has been promoted to vice president of business development; and Jennifer Lord, former manager of systems and compliance, has been promoted to vice president of systems and compliance administration.

St. Mary’s Bank, Manchester, has announced that Richard Sciaudone has joined the credit union as residential lending sales manager. He previously managed a team of loan officers as regional mortgage manager for another New England financial institution.

Meredith Village Savings Bank has launched a lead paint abatement lending program for commercial mortgage customers to support financing the costs of lead paint inspection, remediation and abatement in residential rental properties constructed before 1978. MVSB said it has committed funds to actively promote a special commercial mortgage program for the remediation of lead paint hazards.

Liza McSwain of Windsor, Vt., has joined Bar Harbor Bank & Trust as assistant vice president, branch relationship manager, at the bank’s location in Claremont.

Bank of New Hampshire, Laconia, has named Deborah Clapp to its commercial services team as assistant vice president-senior credit analyst.

Bellwether Community Credit Union, Manchester, has added ClickS-WITCH, an automated account-switching platform that helps members and potential members open and direct existing automated debits and credits to a new Bellwether account. “Moving from a manual account opening process to the fully automated and simple-to-use Click- SWITCH platform was the best choice for us,” said Jeff Benson, chief operating officer of Bellwether Community Credit Union.
