NEWPORT: Two Upper Valley clinics that prescribe controlled medications to treat opioid use disorder have suddenly closed. New England Medicine and Counseling Associates, which has six locations in the Twin States including Grantham and Newport, closed as of May 29 according to a news release from the NH Department of Health and Human Services. The state agency did not specify a reason for why the business closed and urged affected patients to find another clinic to provide them with care. As a result of the closure, emergency departments may expect to see an increase in people experiencing withdrawal or requesting buprenorphine, a medication for the treatment of opioid use disorder, the news release said. Patients who need help finding new medical providers can find assistance by calling 211 in New Hampshire or VTHelplink (802-565-LINK) in Vermont.

MANCHESTER: With New Hampshire facing a 43.9% statewide increase in food insecurity, the NH Food Bank is mobilizing efforts to fight back against hunger across the state. As part of its efforts, the Food Bank is asking residents and businesses to participate in its 2024 Summer Meals Challenge to provide critical support to New Hampshire families by donating or gifting needed items. A generous donor will match every monetary gift up to $100,000, doubling each donation for a limited time.

Twenty-six percent of respondents said low staffing is a major issue, but workforce housing availability and cost was also a top concern.
