1. Last month, U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen, chair of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee that funds the National Science Foundation (NSF), joined NSF Director Sethuraman Panchanathan during a visit to the John Olson Advanced Manufacturing Center at the University of New Hampshire. The center focuses on advanced manufacturing technologies and manufacturing concepts to provide hands-on learning opportunities in a factory environment.


2. UNH President Jim Dean and other members of UNH faculty met with local business partners in Manchester as part of their UNH Embrace NH bus tour. Each stop represented a pathway the university is taking to strengthen the state’s workforce, educate the next generation and provide resources to fight substance abuse, homelessness and the mental health crisis.


3. Meredith Village Savings Bank (MVSB) was honored as the 2023 Business of the Year by the Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce during their Sunset Wine & Dine Annual Awards Celebration. 4. Merrimack County Savings Bank supported Overcomers Refugee Services with a $3,500 grant, so the nonprofit may provide financial literacy courses about the basics of banking and other social services to New Americans. 5. Ledyard National Bank supported West Central Behavioral Health during Mental Health Awareness month in May with a $1,000 donation. 6. Granite VNA recently held its annual Passion for Caring fundraising event at The Barn at Bull Meadow in Concord, which generated more than $52,000 to support the agency’s home, health and hospice care services across 82 communities. Granite VNA also honored Boys and Girls Club CEO Chris Emond with the 2023 Kay Sidway Award, which is given to an individual devoted to the education, nurturing and well-being of families in their communities.


7. Wentworth-Douglass Hospital awarded a $10,000 community benefit grant to the Alliance for Community Transportation (ACT), which provides community transportation for seniors and adults with disabilities in southeastern New Hampshire. Seven individuals were chosen as the 2023 New Hampshire Healthcare Heroes in recognition for going above and beyond in their communities: Tammi Mozier, vice president of education and quality, Granite VNA; Heather Sparano, volunteer services coordinator, NH Veterans Home; Henry Sokol, physical therapist assistant, Vitality To You; Anna Lingelbach-Lorenz, orthopedic physician assistant, Weeks Medical Center; Kim Wolph, school nurse, Oyster River High School (pictured); Derek Earle, assistant CTE director/EMT instructor, Pinkerton Academy; and Morgan McCusker, clinical nurse supervisor, Dartmouth Health.
