WHAT: Friends of Aine — a nonprofit organization providing peer-to-peer support services to grieving children, teens and families — will host its 7th annual gala, a black-tie-optional event featuring dinner, dancing and a live auction with items such as trips to highly desired vacation spots and a private professional photography session, among other experiences. Additionally, this year will feature live entertainment by Dueling Pianos. All proceeds will benefit grief support services and programs offered by the organization.

Attendees will watch live as the competition between chefs heats up, enjoy dinner curated by Chef Zimmern and have the opportunity to take part in both live and silent auctions.

THE LENSES WE LOOK THROUGH: UNCONSCIOUS BIAS AT WORK

WHAT: What do we mean when we talk about unconscious bias? How are these biases formed? Through nonjudgmental discussions and activities, attendees will explore what factors influence how we perceive others as well as how others perceive us. The Hanna Grimes Center will facilitate a safe and structured discussion, providing all participants with an opportunity to learn the definition of unconscious bias, information about how it impacts the workplace, and tools for self-awareness and action. Unconscious biases are the mental shortcuts our brains take to help us make decisions quickly. This course is aimed at raising awareness of how unconscious biases work and how they can negatively influence workplace interactions. Over three two-hour sessions (in person on 04/12, 04/26, and 05/10), participants will explore themselves and the bias we bring. This series includes concrete facilitation, engaging activities, personal reflection, and small and large-group discussions.

RESCUE RUN: RACE FOR MARINE MAMMALS
WHEN: Sat., April 22, 9 a.m.
WHERE: Seacoast Science Center, 570 Ocean Blvd., Rye

WHAT: The Rescue Run: Race for Marine Mammals features a 5k chip-timed trail race and untimed walk to benefit the Center’s Marine Mammal Rescue program. The race follows a scenic route through the forest, by the rocky shore, along a sandy beach, and alongside historic military fortifications in Odiorne Point State Park. The first 150 5k registrants receive an official wick-wear race t-shirt; additional shirts are available for purchase for $15 when you register. A limited number will be for sale on race day. Prizes will be awarded for the fastest male and female overall times, as well as top finishers in gender and age categories and best ocean-themed costume.

WHAT: You’re invited to celebrate the 2023 Spring cohort of the Business Lab Program and get to know rural entrepreneurs who are getting started in the community. Business Lab (formerly known as Startup Lab) is a fast-paced, interactive program of seven classes held over seven weeks, designed to help entrepreneurs create, refine, implement and present their businesses. The program covers the essentials of business strategy, finance and profitability, marketing and sales, business planning, and project implementation.
