The historic Wentworth by the Sea Hotel and Spa in New Castle, formerly a Marriott, has joined the Opal Collection, making it the sixth hotel in the Northeast to become part of the resort brand. It joins such landmark resorts as The Sagamore Resort in Lake George, N.Y., and Samoset Resort in Rockport, Maine.
The Wentworth, originally built in 1874, was saved from the wrecking ball and reopened in 2003 after a comprehensive, multimillion-dollar restoration. In the 20 years since, there have been a number of updates to the property, including a recent renovation of all accommodations, giving it the contemporary feel it has today, while still allowing it to reclaim its place on the New Hampshire seacoast as a grand, modern destination that has never forgotten its roots.
The resort features 161 rooms and suites, two pools, an on-property spa and fitness center, clay tennis court and gardens as well as three dining options: SALT, serving fresh seafood, prime meats and an award-winning wine list; Latitudes, for seasonal waterfront dining; and the Latitudes Sky Bar.

The new 88-room Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott North Conway has opened to the public. Located at the base of Cranmore Mountain Resort, the hotel is managed by Lafrance Hospitality, which owns other hotels throughout New England, including the Marriott Residence Inn in North Conway. The opening comes at a time when the Conway Planning Board is proposing a one-year moratorium on hotel construction to give the town time to update its master plan. Part of those discussions concerning the need for a moratorium is the lack of local workforce housing and how that has contributed to a lack of employees.
