EDUCATION

Lakes Region Community College has added a new paramedic certificate program to meet the demand for more medical personnel. The one-year program is designed for firefighters and emergency medical technicians or advanced emergency medical technicians looking to further their education on a variety of patient care topics, including therapeutic communications, the assessment and treatment of medical illnesses, traumatic injuries and multi-system trauma, public health, caring for special populations and critical care.


ARCHITECTURE




JSA Design, a Portsmouth architecture, planning and interior design firm, has added two new staff members, Heidi Smith as interior designer and Karen Morse as accounting and office manager. A resident of Maine, Smith has extensive healthcare design experience as a former interior designer and construction administration coordinator with Cannon Design in Boston. Morse previously worked in administrative positions in the senior living industry, most recently as business office director for Windsor Place of Wilmington, an independent/assisted living and memory care community in Wilmington, Mass.


FINANCIAL SERVICES

Samantha Marshall has joined St. Mary’s Bank as community relations coordinator.

Eastern Bank has named Robert Beveridge its new senior vice president and commercial team leader in Portsmouth. Prior to joining Eastern, Beveridge worked at Wells Fargo Bank Boston for over 10 years in both commercial and business banking leadership roles, most recently as senior vice president, commercial banking leader.

Bank of New Hampshire’s “Stepping Stone” account was officially certified by the national Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund as meeting the Bank On National Account Standards, cocreated by consumer advocates to designate both core and strongly recommended features that ensure low-cost, high-functionality and consumer safety. Key features of the Stepping Stone account include being free for account holders under the age of 23 or a monthly cost of only $5, no overdraft or nonsufficient fund fees, the ability to pay bills and make purchases, and federal deposit insurance. Ledyard National Bank has announced the appointment of Kathy Underwood, president and CEO, to the Federal Reserve’s National Community Depository Institutions Advisory Council, which advises the board on the economy, lending conditions and other issues of interest to community depository institutions.

Jennifer Williams, a wealth management advisor at The Foundry Financial Group, Laconia, has been authorized by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards to use the Certified Financial Planner and CFP certification marks. The marks identify individuals who have met experience and ethical requirements, have successfully completed financial planning coursework and have passed the CFP certification examination.


ACCOUNTING

CPA Brooke Pasake has been appointed to the NH Board of Accountancy. Pasake is a senior accountant with Raiche & Company CPAs, with offices in Dover and Rochester. She specializes in small business tax returns, QuickBooks training and consulting for clients of the firm.


CONSTRUCTION

For the fifth year, Chinburg Properties, Newmarket, has earned a Sustained Excellence Award through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star Partner of the Year Awards. It was one of a limited number of companies nationwide to do so. Chinburg earned Energy Star certification for its single-family construction as well as for two of its larger multi-unit developments, the Brewery 145 project with 92 apartments in Portsmouth, and the Scenic Salinger building with 50 apartments in Rochester.


TECHNOLOGY

The ATOM Group LLC, with offices in Portsmouth and Concord, has released its Lighthouse next-generation dark web analytics and intelligence platform powered by Red Sky Alliance Technology. The ATOM Group serves as emergency cyber-incident response partner to the NH Public Risk Management Exchange, which supports over 500 public entities.


HEALTHCARE

Integra Direct Primary Care, operated by Dr. Belinda Castor, has opened in Manchester to serve patients under a membership caredelivery model. Such a model operates through monthly membership fees with no health insurance involved. The practice is located at 130 Liberty St.

Concord-based home health care and hospice provider Granite VNA awarded scholarships to three employees to further their clinical skills and credentials: registered nurses Megan Taylor of Barnstead, awarded the Eugene and Anne Slusser Scholarship, Elizabeth Diminico of Boscawen, awarded the Ruby Rainie Nydegger Scholarship; and Beth Rachdorf of Canterbury, a licensed nursing assistant, awarded the Jacob W. Bishop Scholarship.

The bariatric surgery center at Southern New Hampshire Weight Management, which provides care for patients seeking surgical treatment for obesity and related conditions, has earned accreditation as a Comprehensive Center by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program. The accreditation affords access to minimally invasive surgical treatment to patients across a wider range of insurance carriers.


ENERGY

NHSaves utility partners Eversource, Liberty, NH Electric Cooperative and Unitil have received the 2022 Energy Star Partner of the Year — Sustained Excellence Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy for the ninth year in a row.


FOOD AND BEVERAGE

Vine 32 Wine + Graze Bar has opened on South River Road in Bedford as the first self-pour wine bar in the state. The bar uses enomatic wine dispensers in lieu of a bartender to offer guests an opportunity to sample small boutique wines from all over the world. Vine 32 also offers a tapas grazing menu and build-your-own charcuterie boards featuring locally sourced farm fresh meats, cheeses and produce.

Wozz! Kitchen Creations, a New Hampshirebased specialty foods company, earned Gold Awards at the Specialty Food Association’s 2022 Summer Fancy Food show for three of its globally inspired cooking sauces: Vietnamese Green Tea & Mint Dipping Sauce in the Condiment, Marinade and Dressing category; Korean Raspberry Gochujang BBQ Sauce in the Barbeque Sauce category; and North African Chermoula Sauce in the Sauce category.

Newmarket-based Deciduous Brewing Company has won a Gold Crushie Award in the Best Brand Identity category at the recent Craft Beer Marketing Awards, which recognize the craft beer artwork, culture, retail marketing and design efforts.

LaBelle Winery, which has locations in Amherst, Derry and Portsmouth, recently redesigned its branding, giving the winery a new logo, product labeling and fully redesigned its website. Throughout 2022, the winery said it will gradually transition its signage, collateral materials, brochures and marketing materials to its new branding design.


AGRICULTURE AND FOOD

Ann and Marc Davis, owners of Woods Without Gile, a tree farm that’s located in the towns of Springfield and Wilmot, have been named 2022 NH Outstanding Tree Farmers of the Year by the NH Tree Farm Program. Proceeds from timber harvests on the property have helped establish the trails, pay property taxes, purchase skidder bridges, install gates and make other improvements, and, with a long-range goal of ensuring that their tree farm remains a working forest in perpetuity, the Davises have established a conservation easement for it that is held by Ausbon Sargent Land Preservation Trust.


GOVERNMENT

Jason Dexter, a threeyear veteran of the NH Insurance Department, has been promoted to life and health director. In his new role, he will oversee Life and Health actuarial services and analytics, administration of forms compliance, and conduct investigations and examinations.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has announced that New Hampshire will be receiving $4 million in federal funds to help with assessment and remediation of brownfields around the state to encourage their further development. Grants are going to: BRI Development LLC to clean up the Sinclair Lot in Bethlehem, $500,000; Nashua Regional Planning Commission to assess downtown Nashua and Milford, $500,000; NH Department of Environmental Services to assess sites in Berlin, Derry and Winchester, $2 million; Southern New Hampshire Planning Commission to assess sites in Manchester and Derry, $500,000; Southwest Region Planning Commission to assess the sites in Hinsdale, Winchester, Swanzey and Keene, $500,000.


ADVERTISING AND MARKETING

Printing Industries New England has announced that Polaris Direct, a direct marketing services and printing company in Hooksett, won two awards of recognition in the association’s New England regional Awards of Excellence competition.


LAW

Eric T. Kilchenstein has joined the firm of Sheehan Phinney, working primarily out of the firm’s Portsmouth and Manchester offices. His practice includes commercial real estate, general corporate work and commercial finance across numerous industry sectors. He has experience representing businesses, nonprofits and institutional clients of all sizes.

The NH Bar Association has announced the winners of its 2022 President’s Awards, which will be presented June 17 at the association’s 2022 annual meeting. The Justice William A. Grimes Award for Judicial Professionalism will go to Judge M. Kristin Spath, who sits on the 6th Circuit Court in Concord, where she has served since 2011. Receiving the Distinguished Service to the Legal Profession Award will be Mitchell M. Simon, who has been of counsel at Devine, Millimet & Branch, Manchester, NH, for 18 years. And the E. Donald Dufresne Award for Outstanding Professionalism will be presented to Pamela E. Phelan, litigation director at the Disability Rights Center-NH, where she has worked since August 2018.

McLane Middleton has announced that attorney Sabrina C. Beavens has joined the firm as counsel in the Corporate Department and Real Estate Practice Group.



Timothy A. Sorenson and Paula R. Domanski have joined the law firm of Sulloway & Hollis. Sorensen is a member of the Trusts and Estates Group and focuses his practice on estate planning, tax planning, estate and trust administration, and probate matters. Domanski joined the firm’s Litigation Practice Group and focuses her practice on the defense of medical malpractice and insurance matters. Both are based in the firm’s Concord office.


MEDIA

NHPR’s “Civics 101” podcast has been honored with the American Bar Association‘s Silver Gavel Award for outstanding work that increases the American public’s understanding of law and the legal system. The award honors hosts and producers Nick Capodice and Hannah McCarthy, producer Jacqui Fulton, and the show’s former executive producer, Erika Janik.


NONPROFITS

The NH Women’s Foundation has launched the Reproductive and Sexual Health Care Access Fund in response to the possible overturning of the Roe v. Wade decision by the U.S. Supreme Court. The fund will support the work of organizations and initiatives that advance reproductive justice and provide support and ensure continued access to reproductive and sexual health care in the Granite State.

Seacoast-based nonprofit Step Up Parents has received a $5,000 grant from the Bishop’s Charitable Assistance Fund to continue its mission of providing financial support to kinship families resulting from parental addiction in New Hampshire.

The Monadnock United Way and The Local Crowd have launched the Start Small, Think Big campaign that runs through June 10. During this time, all donations will benefit Monadnock United Way’s early childhood initiative Impact Monadnock, which seeks to improve outcomes for all children in the Monadnock Region from birth to age 8 and their families facing poverty, adverse experiences and limited access to quality child care.


REAL ESTATE

Homeowners in Hollis Pines Cooperative have purchased their 88-unit manufactured home park, making it New Hampshire’s 143rd resident owned community (ROC). With training and technical assistance from the NH Community Loan Fund’s ROC-NH TM team, homeowners organized and formed Hollis Pines Cooperative Inc. and were able to match the $5 million offer made by Patriot Holdings of Las Vegas, Nev. The deal was finalized on April 29 with a mortgage from the Community Loan Fund.


TRANSPORTATION

Portsmouth-based C&J Bus Lines has announced that it will begin accepting reservations on June 21. All trips will offer customers guaranteed seating on the travel date and time selected. Additionally, C&J said it will launch improved website features and enhanced ticketing options, including easy online rescheduling and Apple and Google Wallet ticket integrations.

Hooksett-based fleet management company Merchants Fleet has been selected as a 2022 U.S. Best Managed Company by Deloitte, a program sponsored by Deloitte Private and The Wall Street Journal, that recognizes outstanding U.S. private companies and the achievements of their management teams.
