Renters will soon be moving into 50 new apartments at the historic Scenic Theater and Salinger Block buildings in Rochester, which have been given new life through a major redevelopment project.
City officials took a tour of the $8 million Chinburg Properties project at 10-14 North Main St., part of what leaders see as part of a vision for revitalization of the city’s downtown.
Paul Goodwin, project manager for the developers, said Chinburg is in talks with people interested in the two available commercial spaces in the mixed-use development. Both are food related.
As for the apartments, they are “all rented, except for one,” Goodwin said. “I expect that final one will be rented before we open the buildings.”
The apartments are a mix of sizes. Goodwin said 30 percent are studio apartments, 45 percent are one bedrooms, and 25 percent are two-bedroom spaces. Renters will pay from just under $1,000 to $1,800-plus per month, depending on the unit.
The Scenic Theater is a Georgian Revival building that served as Rochester’s first theater. Most of the building has been vacant and in disrepair for three decades. The Salinger Block is Rochester’s only neoclassical block, and its most recent tenant was Kelly Gymnastics.
