The Greater Salem Chamber of Commerce has launched The Great Yeti Quest, an event designed to encourage people to visit and support local businesses. Over 50 locations are participating in the initiative, which involves customers looking for a customized, 7-foot-tall yeti with a QR code that directs people to take photos and post to the chamber’s designated social media site. The quest runs through Feb. 2, and prizes will be drawn daily. All contestants will also be entered to win the grand prize of a cruise vacation to Alaska. Donna Morris, president of the chamber, said the event “encourages folks to go through the doors of a local business. Initially they may be there for a Yeti photo and to try and win a prize, but they very well may make a purchase or start up a conversation that leads to some business.”
