HEALTHCARE

Visiting Nurse and Hospice for Vermont and New Hampshire and Dartmouth-Hitchcock

Medical Center have partnered in a pilot program to deliver outpatient antibiotic therapy to patients with injection drug use/ substance use disorder in the home, bringing the treatment to a population that until now has not previously had access to it. “We know through other states that have trialed this program, such as Massachusetts and Maine with success, that science supports giving people recovery support, so they can continue to receive IV antibiotics at home. These patients want to be home and to go through whatever phase of recovery they are in,” said Briana White, home health care manager at VNH.


The Mental Health Center of Greater Manchester has announced that Dr. Kirija Kokulanathan has joined the center as a psychiatrist in its Community Support Services Program. In addition, nurse practitioner Lily Roselin Raja will transition from the center’s Wellness Clinic to the Medication Services Program.

Dr. Barbara C. Jobst has been named the new chair of the Department of Neurology at Dartmouth-Hitchcock and the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. Jobst is the first woman to serve as chair of Neurology at D-H.

EDUCATION

New England College has expanded its offerings for its doctorate of education by launching a hybrid program that focuses on leadership and administration in the student’s chosen area, pre-K through grade 12 or postsecondary education.

The new program is designed for a national audience, the college said.

Derica Carty, a 1999 graduate of Franklin Pierce University and president of Clear Curriculum in Washington, D.C., has been appointed to the school’s board of trustees. Before founding Clear Curriculum in 2020, she worked at Accenture Federal Services and has held consulting positions with accounting firms Deloitte and Grant Thornton.

ENGINEERING

Harrison Roakes of Manchester, an engineer with Sanborn Head in Concord, has been named the 2021 Young Engineer of the Year by New Hampshire’s engineering societies. Roakes, who joined the firm in 2014, is currently a project manager responsible for private and publicsector projects. In 2019, he won the Environmental Business Council of New England’s Ascending Leader award in 2019. He will be officially honored at the 2022 Engineers Week Awards Banquet & Exhibition.

NONPROFITS

Dismas Home of New Hampshire, a Manchester-based nonprofit that helps previously incarcerated women transition back into society, has named Cheryll Andrews as its new executive director. She most recently was executive director of the Great Waters Music Festival in Wolfeboro.

The National Endowment for the Arts has approved a $25,000 Grants for Arts Projects award to the MacDowell Colony in Peterborough, the nation’s first artist residency program, to provide critical support for an artist working in one of MacDowell’s various disciplines. The grant will provide a first-time fellowship to an artist who will reside at MacDowell.

Farmsteads of New England in Hillsborough and Epping recently hired Denise Vaillancourt as business manager. She previously was chief financial officer of the Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains and vice president of finance for the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests. In addition, Steve Royer has joined Farmsteads as human resources director. He most recently was business manager at NEFCO Fire Investigations.


The Way Home, Manchester, has added two members to its team: Marcy Wells has joined the agency in the finance and accounting area, and Juamelis Cabrera is serving as an intake coordinator/housing advocate.

Meredith Village Savings Bank has donated $5,000 to Lakes Region Community Developers in honor of Carol Bickford, who recently retired after 36 years at the bank, most recently as senior vice president and retail lending officer. The Foundation for New Hampshire Community Colleges, Concord, has appointed Stephen J. Ellis of Pittsburg, who retired from The Hartford Insurance Group after 38 years as senior vice president and national director of sales, and Michael O’Rourke of Hollis, founder of Tri-State Fire Protection, Hudson, to its board of directors. The foundation provides greater access to educational opportunities through financial assistance for student scholarships, program development and enhancements from New Hampshire’s seven community colleges. Portsmouth-based nonprofit Step Up Parents has received a $1,500 grant from the Rotary Club of Portsmouth to help the organization in supporting kinship caregivers in New Hampshire who are raising the children of parents with substance use disorder.

New Hampshire PBS has been awarded a three-year, $60,000 New Hampshire Charitable Foundation Community Unrestricted Grant in support of its weekly online public affairs program, “The State We’re In,” a local program captioning and expansion of educational services to New Hampshire middle school students.

Louise Santosuosso has been promoted to vice president, focusing on new growth areas in New England for the American Cancer Society.

Bar Harbor Bank & Trust recently presented donations totaling nearly $12,000 to seven Northern New England nonprofit organizations from its employeedriven charitable giving program, Casual for a Cause, including Lake Sunapee Region VNA & Hospice in New Hampshire.

Dover-based Living Innovations has become a service of Omaha, Neb.-based Mosaic. Living Innovations has 18 offices throughout New England focused on supporting people of all ages and abilities to have a good life at home and in the community.

Newburyport Bank has donated $1,000 to Community Partners of Strafford County to be used for the Community Partners Mobile Van Program that serves high-risk clients who became homebound as a result of the pandemic as well as its “In Shape” Program, designed to address the physical health of those with mental illness or developmental disabilities.“

MEDIA

Amy LaBelle, winemaker and co-owner of LaBelle Winery, and New Hampshire PBS have partnered to present a series of prerecorded interactive cooking classes geared toward kids age 6 to 16. The series, which is available online, is titled “Amy LaBelle’s Cooking with Kids.” The show is hosted by LaBelle and produced by New Hampshire PBS.

BUSINESS ORGANIZATIONS

The Upper Valley Business Alliance has added five members to its board: Cheryl Allen, vice president of human resources at King Arthur Baking Company; Dave Barrette, owner of Main Street Kitchens in Hanover; Alison Chisholm, coordinator of the Entrepreneurship & Innovation Program at River Valley Community College in Lebanon; Jeff Chu, chief technology officer at Simbex in Lebanon; and Kathy Decker, general manager of Six South Street Hotel in Hanover.

FINANCIAL SERVICES

Carlos Maldonado of the Kennebunk Savings’ Portsmouth and Hampton branches has been promoted to retail experience manager, In his new role, he will continue to manage their existing branch offices, but will also serve as team leader overseeing the other branch managers in their assigned districts.

Jamie Towne has joined Bangor Savings Bank as a mortgage loan officer in the bank’s new Manchester branch. She most recently worked as a mortgage loan officer at TD Bank.

Bob Robbins, principal of Robbins Farley, Manchester, has earned the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) professional designation from The American College of Financial Services. To achieve the designation, candidates must complete a minimum of eight courses and 16 hours of supervised examinations and fulfill stringent experience and ethics requirements and participate in continuing education to maintain professional recertification.

Cody Tibbetts has joined NHTrust as a wealth management assistant based in Concord. He previously was a branch service representative for Merrimack County Savings Bank’s Hooksett office. He currently serves on the board of the Hooksett Chamber of Commerce, and is studying Business Administration at NHTI in Concord. He is active with the Creative Dance Workshop in Bow, has ridden horses all his life, and loves to ski and travel. He volunteers every December 24 at the National Guard to help with the Capital Region Food Program. Tibbetts lives in Concord with his fiancé.

FOOD AND AGRICULTURE

Thai-born chef and entrepreneur Emshika Alberini of Littleton has launched a line of iced teas and coffees, Emshika’s Original Thai Iced Tea and Thai Iced Coffee. The inaugural products will be: Emshika’s Original Thai Iced Tea; Emshika’s Original Thai Iced Coffee; Emshika’s Original Thai Iced Tea with Oat Milk; and Emshika’s Original Thai Iced Coffee with Oat Milk. The tea is brewed from organic Assam tea that is naturally grown and sourced from northern Thailand, while the coffee is prepared in the traditional Oliang style, meaning it’s prepared from a mixture of coffee, sweetener (monk fruit in this case), and various grains and seeds like cardamom, corn, soybeans, rice and sesame seeds.

MANUFACTURING

Jennifer Pratt has been promoted to director of marketing, sales and business development at Walkin’ Pets, a maker of products for disabled, injured and aging pets in Amherst. In addition, Chrissy Murray has been promoted to professional sales and marketing specialist. And on April 1, Mark C. Robinson, president and founder of the firm will transition into the role of CEO. Kathy Conley, currently vice president of operations, will be promoted to president.

API of New Hampshire has entered a reseller agreement with CASPR Group to help bring the Texas company’s disinfection technology to New England. API is a sheet metal manufacturer and HVAC distributor in New England that specializes in HVAC and indoor air quality product.

LAW

Sheehan Phinney has hired attorney Jeff Bernarducci, who will work primarily out of the firm’s Boston and Portsmouth offices. He specializes in working with clients in the construction, energy and real estate sectors.

Concord-based Rath, Young and Pignatelli has announced that Lauren Kilmister has joined the firm as an associate attorney in the Renewable/Alternative Energy and Utility Practice Group and the Business and Finance Practice Group.

TELECOMMUNICATIONS

UScellular says it made a $9.4 million investment in its New Hampshire network in 2020, including nearly $4.9 million in 5G upgrades. Additionally, the company says it continues to build out its 5G device portfolio and invested $85,000 to redesign and upgrade its Keene retail store in 2020 to create a better shopping experience and showcase the variety of smartphones, tablets, hot spots and wireless tech accessories available for customers.

REAL ESTATE

NAI Norwood Group has announced the sale of 1 Somersworth Plaza in Somersworth to Yuan Ze 2LLC for $339,900. The 8,400-square-foot retail strip plaza, formerly known as Lucky Supermarket, was owned and operated by LDL Enterprises for several years. The buyer of the property is an investor, and plans to put the property on the market for lease in the near future, said Deana Arden of NAI Norwood Group, who represented LDL Enterprises in the transaction.

Roche Realty Group has announced the sale of the Lakeland School property on Meredith Center Road and Route 104 in Meredith. The property includes 5.27 acres and a 13,000-squarefoot building, formerly known as The Wicwas Lodge, with views overlooking Lake Wicwas.

George Hurt of Roche Realty Group represented the seller in the transaction.

A 8,262-square-foot mixed-use building at 205 Market St. in downtown Portsmouth has been sold for $3.7 million. David Choate and Andrew Ward of Colliers International’s Portsmouth office represented the seller, Betty Belcher and Seth Morton Associates LLC, in the transaction. Tony Jalbert of Tate & Foss Sotheby’s International represented the buyer, 409 Franklin Pierce Highway LLC. Choate and Ward said the sale price of the four-story waterfront mixed-use building was the full asking price.

SPORTS

Hilltop Golf Course in Peterborough recently launched its first indoor golf season, celebrating with a sold-out tee sheet for opening weekend. Golfers use their own golf clubs and hit real golf balls provided by Hilltop. In addition to dozens of course choices, players can choose to hit on the practice range or play some challenge games. Annie Card, owner of the golf course, said the simulator has been well received. The simulator is open to the public, and accommodates up to four players per session. Petra Industries, the Oklahoma-based consumer technology wholesale electronics distributor, has named Heidi Heath as its regional sales director in New England. Heath has over 25 years of experience in the consumer electronics and retail arenas.
