
1. The Southern NH Chamber of Commerce recently celebrated a ribbon-cutting for Kelari Greek Taverna & Bar with the restaurant’s staff. The eatery opened at 125 Bridge St. in Pelham on Dec. 31, offering menu items like Greek horiatiki salad and moussaka, plus a selection of Italian dishes like piccata and pizzas.

2. On April 15, Dover charitable organization Friends of Hyder Family Hospice House announced it raised $38,364.19 from a 10-day charitable gaming event at Filotimo Dover supporting Hyder Family Hospice House. The facility provides care to people with life-limiting illnesses and in-patient hospice services as the only resource of its kind in the Seacoast region.

3. Nashua Community College graduates took part in the Spring 2024 NH Signing Day last Friday for the New England Submarine Shipbuilding Partnership. The event, hosted by the college and SENEDIA — the Southeastern New England Defense Industry Alliance — celebrated students who’ve either completed the college’s Precision Manufacturing Boot Camp or are in the process of doing so, helping connect them with careers in New England’s submarine industry.

4. Girls at Work Inc. collaborated with Manchester-area schools to host the second annual New Futures for Females career fair April 9-10, introducing high school and middle school students to local employer representatives to foster exploration of varying career paths. Manchester Mayor Jay Ruais attended the event, and employers included Associated Grocers of New England, Revision Energy, TD Bank and Eversource.

5. The NH Charitable Foundation recently named Bedford High School physics teacher Jennifer Baney its 2024 Christa McAuliffe Sabbatical recipient. Baney will receive a year off with pay and a materials budget for her idea to produce four digital games involving puzzles and challenges designed to represent specific science concepts. The sabbatical is named in memory of the late Christa McAuliffe, a Concord social studies teacher among those on board the Space Shuttle Challenger’s fatal launch in 1986.

6. Girls Inc. of New Hampshire hosted its “Fuel Her Fire” gala and auction on April 4 at Nashua’s Sky Meadow Country Club. More than 200 attendees raised over $245,000 for the nonprofit at auction, which was followed by entertainment, a champagne toast and dinner. Proceeds will support scholarships for NH girls ages 5-18 to participate in the organization’s after-school and summer programs and research-based educational programming. Those include STEM, media and economic literacy, adolescent health, career planning and violence prevention. Pictured is Sharron McCarthy, the nonprofit’s CEO.

7. The North American Deck and Railing Association honored Manchester deck-building business Homes and More by Hand at its National Deck Competition held earlier this year, where owner Brian Hand was awarded in the Inlay on a Deck category. The association selected the business’s 120-square-foot composite deck built for the Paquette family in Hooksett.
