BIA is advocating for or against scores of bills related to workforce development, housing and overreaching regulations that could drive up the cost of doing business, particularly those targeting landfills and waste streams. Join BIA’s Coffee and Crossover and get the latest news on the most important developments. Coffee and Crossover will again feature a distinguished panel of New Hampshire’s finest political observers and reporters. SPRING BUSINESS LAB PITCH EVENT

WHERE: Hannah Grimes Center for Entrepreneurship, 25 Roxbury St., Keene

WHAT: Join the Hannah Grimes Center in celebrating their most recent cohort of Business Lab students. Each of them has spent the last eight weeks refining their business or nonprofit and building their marketing, finance and project management skills. The event will celebrate their graduation from Business Lab with a pitch event on April 16, where attendees will hear about their progress and celebrate their growth!

WORKSHOP

BLUEPRINT READING AND ENGINEERING DRAWING

WHEN: Wednesday, April 17, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

WHERE: NH Manufacturing Extension Partnership (NHMEP), 172 Pembroke Road, Concord

WHAT: Students will develop skills to understand engineering drawings, including multi-view drawings, assembly and detailed drawings, section views and auxiliary views. The importance of title blocks, bills of materials, drawings notes and revision control is also emphasized. The course also covers the interpretation of dimensions, surface finishes, screw threads/fasteners, notes and common manufacturing terms and symbols. In addition, students will be exposed to the basic concepts of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, with symbols and terms.

SEMINAR

HOW ARE POLICYMAKERS IMPROVING ACCESS TO LOWER-COST HOMES?

WHEN: Friday, April 19, 10 – 11:30 a.m.

WHERE: NH Institute of Politics, 100 St. Anselm Drive, Manchester (virtual option available)

WHAT: Join housing experts Linlin Liang and Rachel Siegel from The Pew Charitable Trusts to discuss their latest research on policy changes that are improving housing supply and affordability. The discussion will examine how policymakers across the country are effectively addressing housing shortages, soaring costs and limited access to financing. In particular, the event will cover multiple topics at the heart of current housing policy debates, including rents and effects on housing costs, public opinion, homelessness, parking, accessory dwelling units and manufactured housing.

FUNDRAISER

RESCUE RUN: RACE FOR MARINE MAMMALS

WHEN: Saturday, April 20, 9 a.m. – noon

WHERE: Seacoast Science Center, 570 Ocean Blvd., Rye

WHAT: The Rescue Run: Race for Marine Mammals, presented by Meredith Village Savings Bank, is the Seacoast Science Center’s largest annual fundraising event to benefit their Marine Mammal Rescue program. Help support SSC’s wildlife conservation and educational outreach work by taking part in the 5K through seaside Odiorne Point State Park.

COST: For 5k Trail Race: $30 for ages 13+ ($35 day of), $20 for ages 6-12 ($25 day of), free for under age 6. For Kids Fun Run (up to age 12): $10 for 300-yard dash or half-mile run

FOR THE HEALTH OF IT! THE MONADNOCK REGION COMMUNITY HEALTH FAIR

WHEN: Saturday, April 27, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

WHERE: Keene Family YMCA, 200 Summit Road, Keene

WHAT: The Keene Sentinel, the Monadnock Region Health Reporting Lab and leadership sponsor Monadnock Community Hospital are staging “For the Health of It,” a day-long health fair featuring presentations by doctors and medical experts, advice from health care providers and practitioners, and information from those who promote healthy lifestyles. The theme of the 2024 For the Health of It health fair will be youth and family health, as April 27 is also Healthy Kid’s Day. A family-oriented event will feature tours and live demonstrations of the Keene Family YMCA facility and all the programs they offer. Attendees can also expect workshops about establishing healthy behaviors, finding a day care and day care safety, children’s development, diabetes, what it takes to foster a child, mental health in young families and children, and social media. Also available are free screenings for hearing and blood pressure with more preventative care services planned.

TACO TOUR MANCHESTER 2024

WHEN: Thursday, May 2, 4 – 8 p.m.

WHERE: Downtown Manchester, Elm Street and side streets

WHAT: Also known as the “World’s Largest Taco Tour,” the Greater Manchester Chamber is excited to bring back the heavily anticipated Taco Tour Manchester. This popular Manchester tradition, which began in 2011, is quickly becoming one of the largest one-day food festivals in the country and will welcome more than 20,000 visitors from Manchester and beyond. Over 60 restaurants are selling their signature tacos for $3 each! Walk Elm Street and side streets, consume as many tacos as you can handle and have fun!

COST: Free to participate; tacos $3 each
