2024 SMALL BUSINESS EMPOWERMENT SUMMIT IN BRETTON WOODS

WHAT: The Women’s Rural Entrepreneurial Network (WREN) and the U.S. Small Business Administration New Hampshire District Office present the 2024 Small Business Empowerment Summit in Bretton Woods. Attendees will learn about the tools and strategies that can help create a strong foundation for creating or growing a business for the long haul. This interactive program provides emerging entrepreneurs and small business owners an opportunity to identify, examine and discuss the factors that influence the long-term sustainability of their businesses. NEIGHBORWORKS ANNUAL BREAKFAST 2024

WHEN: Thursday, March 28, 7:30 – 9 a.m.

WHERE: Manchester Country Club, 180 South River Road, Bedford

WHAT: In “A Balancing Act: Housing, Local Control and Private Property Rights in New Hampshire,” guest speaker Bob Quinn, CEO of the New Hampshire Association of Realtors, will explore whether private property rights and local control are becoming incompatible in New Hampshire. He will discuss why policymakers at the state and local levels need to realize that simply saying “it is a local matter” is no longer an option as we deal with the state’s housing shortage.

FUNDRAISER

10TH ANNUAL SLEEPOUT 2024

WHEN: Friday, March 29, 8 p.m.

WHERE: DoubleTree by Hilton Manchester Downtown, 700 Elm St., Manchester; Waypoint Concord, 103 N. State St., Concord; Waypoint Tri-City Region, 3 Wallace St., Rochester

WHAT: SleepOut is a night spent outside each March to expand our collective consciousness about youth homelessness in New Hampshire and raise funds to address critical needs that will help transform lives. SleepOut is Waypoint’s premier event that directly supports the state’s only overnight youth shelter in Manchester and youth drop-in centers in Concord and Rochester. The 2024 SleepOut is the organization’s 10th anniversary event, and they’re hoping for a record turnout to help end youth homelessness in New Hampshire. In-person SleepOuts will take place in Manchester, Concord and Rochester, where sleepers will sleep under a large event tent. Individuals can virtually sleep out at other locations of their choice. The opening program begins at 8 p.m. on March 29 at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Manchester, in the Pensock Room.

COST: Free, but each participant is encouraged to meet a minimal $100 fundraising goal

CONCORD HOSPITAL TRUST’S BEE’S KNEES SOCIAL CLUB

WHEN: Thursday, April 4, 6:30 – 9:30 p.m.

WHAT: Get ready to don your 1920s attire and be transformed back to the Jazz Age. Attending the Bee’s Knee Social Club allows you to travel back in time to a 1920s-themed evening filled with music from a big band, cutting a rug in the main ballroom, enjoying tasty treats and creative mocktails with the copper nearby. Become a Bee’s Knees VIP and make a clean sneak to the private rooms where a password gets you in to taste the moonshine and leave you feeling hotsy-totsy for 1920s beverages. Proceeds raised will support Concord Hospital health system with maternity, prenatal and postnatal OB/GYN patient care.

MACFARLANE RESEARCH GREENHOUSES OPEN HOUSE

WHEN: Saturday, April 6, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

WHERE: Mcfarlane Research Greenhouses, 13 Botanical Lane, Durham

WHAT: The New Hampshire Agricultural Experiment Station is excited to welcome its supporters to the Macfarlane Research Greenhouses at the University of New Hampshire for its 2024 Open House. There will be a full day of talks and presentations by NHAES researchers and Extension specialists. Learn about active research projects at the greenhouses and how the science benefits New Hampshire. The 25,000-square-foot Macfarlane Research Greenhouses are dedicated to research and teaching associated with the NH Agricultural Experiment Station and College of Life Sciences and Agriculture. The greenhouse environments are monitored and precisely regulated through a computer-based control system that creates a sustainable growing environment through the conservation of heat, electricity, water and fertilizer, and increased plant resistance to insect pests and diseases.
