COMBINED state and local taxes often require Granite State residents with lower incomes to pay a larger percentage of their income than those with higher incomes, the NH Fiscal Policy Institute recently reported. New Hampshire is one of 42 states where the top 1% of earners under age 65 pay less than the bottom 20%, the Nonpartisan Institution on Taxation and Economic Policy found in a study.

DATA from a recent survey by community college network Unmudl found that nearly half of job seekers have been looking for a job for six months or longer (42%). About 57% feel a lack of skills is holding them back, while 50% have submitted 10 or fewer applications.

Of those, 70% are seeking a higher salary, 56% want better benefits, 50% want more growth opportunities, and 43% prefer working fewer days in an office setting.
