CONCORD: The NH Women’s Foundation started the new year with four new board members: Joanna Kelley, assistant Mayor in Portsmouth; Lyndsay Robinson, an attorney and partner of Shaheen & Gordon, Lyndsay; Colin Van Ostern, most recently the president and COO of Alumni Ventures; and Erin Zagalaidov, senior director of global health economics and outcomes research at Immuno-Gen, Inc.

MANCHESTER: Aroma Joe’s has opened its newest location in Manchester at 527 Hooksett Road. The 807-square-foot drive-thru location features handcrafted coffee and espresso drinks, unique flavor infusions, signature AJ’s RUSH Energy Drinks and all-day food options. This marks the third Aroma Joe’s in Manchester, and is owned and operated by Robert and Tracy Hanson.

CONCORD: Independent hearing officer Michael King ruled that the NH Lottery Commission has just cause to suspend the charitable gaming licenses of Anthony “Andy” Sanborn and the Concord Casino. King’s ruling suspends Concord Casino’s charitable gaming licenses for six months, as of Jan. 1, 2024. According to King’s ruling, if the business is not sold during the six-month time period, the license will be revoked.

WASHINGTON, D.C.: The Office of Personnel Management is increasing pay for federal employees in New Hampshire and Vermont in establishments such as the White River Junction VA Medical Center, White Mountain National Forest, and the Army’s Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory. It applies to workers in Carroll, Cheshire, Grafton, and Sullivan Counties in New Hampshire, as well as in Vermont, who will now receive the same locality pay as those in most counties in New Hampshire and in the Greater Boston area. The classification will help increase efforts to hire and retain federal employees for critical veterans’ support efforts, including implementation of the PACT Act.

CONCORD: Melissa Beth Countway, of Alton, was officially sworn in as the 110th Associate Justice of the New Hampshire Supreme Court. Justice Countway had served as a judge in the NH Circuit Court from 2017-2023, and previously served as the Belknap County Attorney as well as an attorney in private practice. Countway was nominated to the Supreme Court by Governor Christopher T. Sununu on November 8, 2023, and confirmed by the NH Executive Council on December 20, 2023.

CONCORD: Eight students pursuing post-secondary educational opportunities recently received scholarships from BBB Serving New Hampshire: Ryan Dodge of Manchester, Myles Leatherman of Rye, Peyton Trento of Concord, Isabella Rioux of Nashua, Darsy Morgrage of Manchester, Alex Williams of Merrimack, Hayden Robinson of Raymond and Matthew DeRoche of Boscawen. The Robert M. Shomphe Student Integrity Scholarships are awarded annually to outstanding students who personify ethics as demonstrated through leadership, community service, and overall personal integrity and academic history.
