Shaheen & Gordon has announced the addition of attorney Teresa Farley. She will work with clients from the firm’s offices in Dover, NH, and Portland, Maine. Farley’s practice focuses on divorce and family law, helping clients navigate these complex and emotional matters.


BUSINESS ORGANIZATIONS

The Upper Valley Business Alliance has named their new board officers for 2023: board chair, Scott Young, vice president of retail banking at Mascoma Bank; vice chair, Alison Chisolm, owner of Consultant Squared; treasurer, Jay Simms, partner at Tyler, Simms & St. Saveur Certified Public Accountants; and immediate past chair, Jennifer Packard, director of operations at Mollys Restaurant.

Nominations are being sought for Plan NH’s 2023 Merit Awards of Excellence, which “recognize and showcase outstanding projects that demonstrate how the built environment can make a positive contribution to people and places and reflect the mission and values” of the organization. Deadline for nominations is May 12. Award recipients will be honored at the Plan NH Annual Merit & Scholarship Awards Banquet on June 21 at Hotel Concord. CONSTRUCTION

PC Construction, the South Burlington, Vt.-based construction firm, has won a Build America Award from the Associated General Contractors of America for its work on One Spruce Peak, a residential mountain retreat at the base of Stowe Mountain Resort built in the midst of the pandemic. The $46.5 million, six-story, 125,000-square-foot facility includes 27 skiin/ski-out residences, townhomes and penthouses. Units feature in-residence elevators, spacious balconies with mountain views, sweeping floor-to-ceiling windows, and best-in-class materials and finishes.

Susane Gilbert of Concord has been promoted to project manager at North Branch Construction. Gilbert, who has over 20 years of experience in the industry, joined North Branch in 2022 and “brings excellent technical skills implementing project management technologies and is particularly gifted at performance specification and design review,” said Joseph H. Campbell, president of the firm.


EDUCATION

The Hamel Honors and Scholars College at the University of New Hampshire will open in the fall of 2024 thanks to a $20 million gift from longtime benefactor Dana Hamel.

Funds will help expand in-class and extracurricular opportunities for honors students and Hamel Scholars, and create a dedicated living-learning community for high-achieving students.


FINANCIAL SERVICES

Brent Kiley and Bob Bonfiglio, both private wealth advisors with Ameriprise Financial in Bedford, have been named No. 1 and 2 on Barron’s list of Top 1,200 Financial Advisors in New Hampshire, which recognizes the most outstanding financial advisors who represent the highest levels of ethical standards, professionalism and success in the business.

NHTrust welcomed Steve R. Palmer to the organization as senior vice president, senior client officer. He most recently served as the VP of field supervision for Securities America, plus a 25-year career in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves. Timothy Allen has also joined NHTrust as VP, relationship manager, based out of the firm’s Concord office.

NONPROFITS

NH Legal Assistance has received a two-year, $425,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to support its work in addressing Fair Housing Act violations. In announcing the grant, HUD said the funding will help NHLA to conduct investigations, test and identify discrimination in the rental and sales markets, and work to prevent or eliminate discriminatory housing practices.

The Nashua Center, which has been serving children and adults with disabilities since 1973, has named Marianne Gordineer as its first development director. She most recently worked as director of fundraising and communications for the YWCA White Plains & Central Westchester in New York.

The Society for the Protection of NH Forests has extended the protected lands in Cornish by working with landowners Wallace and Jerryne Cole, who have donated a conservation easement of over 203 acres, known as Paget Farm, directly abutting the southern boundary of the Yatsevitch Forest. The forest began as 800 acres donated in 1995 by Mike Yatsevitch and has since grown through donations and conservation easements to 2,172 acres, the Forest Society said.

The Forest Society also announced that over 700 acres in the Belknap Mountain Range have been conserved by the Society for the Protection of NH Forests in Gilmanton and Gilford thanks to the last 40 acres being donated by landowners Charlie and Nanci Mitchell, who donated one easement on a 304-acre portion of Swett Mountain Forest to the Society 15 years ago, which then was able to purchase a conservation easement on the Mitchell’s 360-acre Durrell Farm tract.

The Monadnock Food Co-op & Cheshire County Conservation District announces three grant recipients for the 2023 Monadnock Food Co-op Farm Fund: Blackfire Farm of Hancock, Dog Days Farm of Fitzwilliam, and Manning Hill Farm of Winchester. Since 2017, the Farm Fund has awarded over $152,000 in grants to 19 local farms.

UScellular is committing up to $13 million in new funding to address the “homework gap” among youth who lack access to reliable internet outside the classroom with the creation of the After School Access Project, that will provide mobile hot spots and two years of service to nonprofits that support these youth groups.

Kennebunk Savings, a recovery-friendly workplace, has donated $15,000 to Hope on Haven Hill and SOS Recovery Community Organization as part of event sponsorships to advocate for substance use disorder prevention and recovery.

Northeast Credit Union’s Pay It Forward 2022 campaign raised $6,275 to be given to The Monarch School of New England, End 68 Hours of Hunger, Home for Now, and Neighbor Helping Neighbor. Funds were gathered from a percentage of every dollar charged on a Northeast credit card in November and December, plus an additional $25 per every checking account opened with direct deposit.

Meredith Village Savings Bank has purchased a $5,500 tax credit through the Community Development Finance Authority in support of the Regional Economic Development Center’s New Americans Loan Fund, which offers business financing to new American business owners seeking to open or grow a business in New Hampshire.

Newburyport Bank donated $3,000 as a sponsor of the 47th Annual UNH Alumni & Friends Wildcat Golf Tournament, an event being held in June where proceeds will go to support the J. Gregg Sanborn Enrichment Fund.

Granite VNA’s PATHS program — designed to help older adults stay active while managing chronic health conditions from home — is now available to residents of Belmont’s Heritage Terrace housing complex, in partnership with Community Action Program.

Residents receive an in-person assessment with a wellness nurse, a customized living plan and nutrition support from a community health educator, and regular check-ins to make sure they are meeting their wellness goals.


SPORTS

The Mohegan Sun Casino & Resort has expanded its partnership with NH Motor Speedway by adding its name to the biggest NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race of the year, now called the Mohegan Sun 100, which will take place at 6 p.m. July 15 as part of New England’s only NASCAR weekend.


HEALTHCARE

Dr. William C. Torrey has been named chair of the department of psychiatry at Dartmouth Health and Geisel School of Medicine, a role he has held on an interim basis since 2020. Torrey joined the Geisel faculty in 1989 and took on leadership of the department of psychiatry’s clinical services in 2003.

For the 10th year in a row, Wentworth-Douglass Hospital has been named one of the best hospitals in the nation for patient experience, according to Healthgrades, who found that 81 percent of patients would “definitely recommend” Wentworth-Douglass, 11 percent higher than the national average.


MANUFACTURING

Children’s furniture maker Whitney Brothers of Keene has introduced their Live Edge collection, a new line of tables and seating for early learning environments that reveals the history of a tree and can help teach children about its growth, thereby fostering a child’s connection to their learning environment.


REAL ESTATE

Alissa Del Tufo has joined Plan NH as the organization’s first program manager, focused on the InvestNH Municipal Planning & Zoning Grant Program.


GOVERNMENT

The NH Department of Safety’s Division of Emergency Services and Communications has been recognized by the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch as an Accredited Center of Excellence for emergency medical dispatching for the sixth time in the division’s history. In 2022, the Division of Emergency Services and Communications answered 468,809 calls for emergencies all over the State of New Hampshire, of which 98.83 percent were answered within the first 10 seconds of dialing, officials said.

NH Electric Cooperative welcomes three new executives to the firm

Three new top executives have been named by the NH Electric Cooperative: Jonathan Nelson, who has been hired as the utility’s vice president of broadband; Michael Jennings, vice president of operations and engineering; and Carla Munoz, vice president of human resources. Nelson will oversee NHEC’s fiber-optic internet subsidiary, NH Broadband, working to provide high-speed internet access to all NHEC members; Jennings, who joined NHEC in 2019 as director of engineering, since then has taken on additional responsibilities in operations, including a key role in construction of fiber-optic networks; and Munoz brings a diversity of experience to NHEC, having served most recently as chief human resources officer at Families In Transition.
