THE LENSES WE LOOK THROUGH: UNCONSCIOUS BIAS AT WORK

WHAT: What do we mean when we talk about unconscious bias? How are these biases formed? Through nonjudgmental discussions and activities, attendees will explore what factors influence how we perceive others as well as how others perceive us. The Hanna Grimes Center will facilitate a safe and structured discussion, providing all participants with an opportunity to learn the definition of unconscious bias, information about how it impacts the workplace, and tools for self-awareness and action. Unconscious biases are the mental shortcuts our brains take to help us make decisions quickly. This course is aimed at raising awareness of how unconscious biases work and how they can negatively influence workplace interactions. Over three two-hour sessions (in person on 04/12, 04/26, and 05/10), participants will explore themselves and the bias we bring. This series includes concrete facilitation, engaging activities, personal reflection, and small and large-group discussions.

WHAT: Haven NH invites all community members to the 12th Annual Kids Are Our Business Breakfast. Registration will be followed by breakfast, networking, and a program to begin at 8:30. This popular breakfast event shines a light on HAVEN’s prevention education programs, offered throughout southeastern New Hampshire. At this year’s breakfast, Haven NH will be discussing youth mental health and highlighting all the work that Haven is doing to support vulnerable youth in our community.

RESCUE RUN: RACE FOR MARINE MAMMALS
WHEN: Sat., April 22, 9 a.m.
WHERE: Seacoast Science Center, 570 Ocean Blvd., Rye
WHAT: The Rescue Run: Race for Marine Mammals features a 5k chip-timed trail race and untimed walk to benefit the Center’s Marine Mammal Rescue program. The race follows a scenic route through the forest, by the rocky shore, along a sandy beach, and alongside historic military fortifications in Odiorne Point State Park. The first 150 5k registrants receive an official wick-wear race t-shirt; additional shirts are available for purchase for $15 when you register. A limited number will be for sale on race day. Prizes will be awarded for the fastest male and female overall times, as well as top finishers in gender and age categories and best ocean-themed costume.

The program covers the essentials of business strategy, finance and profitability, marketing and sales, business planning, and project implementation.
