Brian Garrett, an attorney at McLane Middleton’s Portsmouth office, has been admitted the New Hampshire State Bar. Garrett is vice chair of McLane Middleton’s Education Law Group and has experience in a broad range of complex education and employment matters throughout the country, including in state and federal courts, in alternative resolution processes, and before various administrative agencies.

Two CPAs have been promoted to be managers at the Melanson accounting firm in Merrimack. Phillip D’Acunto Jr., has been in the accounting profession for 13 years and has been with Melanson for nine years, and Leonard Sauvigne, an audit accountant for 16 years, joined the firm’s commercial audit team in September 2021.


ADVERTISING AND MARKETING

Newmarket-based Deciduous Brewing Company and Second Sun Design Co. won a Gold Crushie Award in the Best Brand Identity category of the recent Craft Beer Marketing Awards competition. The global awards recognize the importance of craft beer artwork, culture, retail marketing and design efforts in the marketplace.

Polaris Direct, a full-service direct marketing services company, has been re-certified by the Center for Women & Enterprise Certification Committee as a WBENC Women’s Business Enterprise. Polaris has been certified since 2004.

All Girl Shave Club, a Merrimack-based shaving subscription service for women, was recently given the Best Subscribe & Save award at the Subscription Trade Association’s CUBE Awards, which honor achievements in the subscription industry.


CONSTRUCTION

Decco Inc. in Nashua was the process piping contractor on CRISPR Therapeutics’ new manufacturing facility in Framingham, Mass., which recently was recognized by the International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineering as its Facility of the Year for its innovative design of the facility.


BUSINESS SERVICES

Howell Valuation LLC, Exeter, announced that Alyson Van De Water has earned her Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA) designation. She joined the firm in 2019 with previous experience as associate director of gift planning at the University of New Hampshire Foundation.


FINANCIAL SERVICES

Kandice Miller has joined Bangor Savings Bank as vice president, Main Street banking team lead in New Hampshire, bringing over 25 years of experience in the industry to her new role.

Bank of New Hampshire has promoted Amanda Wentzel to assistant banking office manager of the Gilford Village office. She joined the bank in 2015 as a bank services representative, advancing into other roles such as senior bank services representative and banking office specialist.

Merrimack County Savings Bank has appointed James P. Burnett III to its board of directors after serving as a corporator of the bank for two years. Burnett is currently a consultant and owner of Sight Line Public Affairs LLC, providing strategic advice to companies and trade associations.






Meredith Village Savings Bank has promoted Christina Corbitt to business development officer, working out of the Laconia branch, where she’ll develop new business relationships and support the Bank’s existing business clients. MVSB also welcomed Nicolas Stockman and Ellen Travers as universal bankers at the bank’s new Rochester branch, along with Nicole Ames, who joins the residential lending team there as a mortgage loan officer.


BUSINESS ORGANIZATIONS

The Belknap Economic Development Council has added Amanda Dudek to its staff as marketing and program navigator. The position is funded by the U.S. Small Business Administration Community Navigator Pilot Program, which focuses on addressing barriers encountered by socially and economically disadvantaged small businesses and entrepreneurs.


NONPROFITS

MacDowell, the nation’s first artist residency program in Peterborough, has named four new members to its board of directors: Jeannie Suk Gersen, a professor of law at Harvard Law School and a 2012 MacDowell Fellow; Julius Tapper, who leads inclusive innovation and equitycentered design at Deloitte’s Ethos and Doblin divisions; Katie Firth, vice president and treasurer of the Jean & Louis Dreyfus Foundation; and Luke Kelly, former CEO of the Roald Dahl Story Company.

Spaulding Academy & Family Services, Northfield, has named Meaghan Emmons of Goffstown as its new chief financial officer. She joins the organization after 19 years with Granite Group Benefits and Alera Group, where her most recent role was as senior vice president of finance. In addition, Garrett Lavallee of Meredith has been promoted to principal and director of special education at the academy. He began his career at Spaulding in 1999, holding various positions over the years, most recently as assistant director of special education.

Waypoint has named three community leaders to its statewide board of trustees: Emily Hammond of Nottingham, a former board member of The Richie McFarland Children’s Center (RMCC) and an adjunct faculty member of the UNH Paul Business School; Helen Crow of Portsmouth, a child psychologist and former member of the RMCC board; and Rob Dapice of Contoocook, CEO of the NH Housing Finance Authority.

The Boston-based Home for Little Wanderers has opened Hillsborough Village, a “scattered site” housing program throughout New Hampshire to provide safe, stable housing for young adults involved with the Division for Children, Youth and Families. The program works with landlords to sign leases at market rate for apartments where young adults can live. The organization said the goal of the program is to provide secure, independent housing solutions for young adults who don’t have families to help them transition into adulthood while removing risk for landlords who may not be comfortable signing a lease with a young adult without a credit history.

Seacoast-based nonprofit Step Up Parents has received a $3,000 grant from the Portsmouth Rotary Club Basic Needs Committee.


REAL ESTATE

Malcolm Badger has begun working as a sales agent at Badger Peabody & Smith after working at the North Conway office for a time as support staff. His grandfather, Dick Badger, founded Badger Realty in North Conway, which recently merged with Littleton-based Peabody & Smith.


GOVERNMENT

NH Lottery Commission Chair Debra Douglas was recently renominated by the Executive Council for her fifth three-year term. Douglas was first appointed to the Commission in 2009 and has served as chair since 2010.

The town of Bristol was recently awarded a Broadband Communities Magazine 2022 Cornerstone Award in recognition of its “determination and perseverance to bring better broadband to the community and to expand the service to the wider area of Grafton County.” The award was presented to Town Administrator Nik Coates in May at the magazine’s annual event Houston.

NH Senior Assistant Attorney General Susan G. Morrell has been chosen as Portsmouth’s next city attorney, succeeding Robert Sullivan, who is retiring after 40 years in the post. Morrell starts her job on Aug. 8.


TECHNOLOGY

Hampstead-based RMON Networks Inc. has been included on the Channel Futures magazine’s MSP 501, a ranking of the leading managed service providers in the world. In its survey, Channel Futures ranks applicants using a methodology that weighs financial performance according to long-term health and viability, commitment to recurring revenue and operational efficiency. Datanomix of Nashua, maker of the Automated Production Intelligence software platform, has added a new capability to its product, Automated Downtime Insights, which the company says furthers its mission to deliver the next generation of hands-free production monitoring.


MEDIA

Manchester radio station WFEA has launched a new morning talk show, “The WFEA Morning Update,” hosted by former journalist Drew Cline, currently president of the Josiah Bartlett Center for Public Policy and chair of the state Board of Education. The program airs from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. weekdays.


TRANSPORTATION

Manchester-Boston Regional Airport has selected LAZ Parking LLC to manage its parking and ground transportation services, with plans to introduce new parking equipment, valet parking, shuttle service, customer reservation platforms, an improved MHT FASTPASS program, a customer loyalty program and a parking guidance system.

Four Rivier University alumni were recently presented with Alumni Achievement Awards. Justine DeFronzo, president of New England Sinai Hospital in Stoughton, Mass., received the Outstanding Business Professional/Community Leader Award. Dr. Lauren Marsden ’12 M.Ed./’18 Ed.D., a champion for education, the curriculum coordinator at Winnacunnet High School in Hampton, received the Outstanding Educator Award. Carol Furlong, director of substance use services at Elliot Hospital in Manchester, received the Outstanding Nurse/Healthcare Professional Award. Joshua Muench, who is currently serving in the U.S. Army Reserves and works as alternate facility security officer at BAE Systems in Hudson, received the Outstanding Young Alumni Award.


ENERGY

Members of NH Electric Cooperative have reelected four members to the company’s board of directors to serve three-year terms: Alana Albee of Center Tuftonboro; Carolyn Kedersha of Melvin Village; Thomas F. Mongeon of Rumney; and Sharon L. Davis of Campton. NHEC’s board also elected five officers to serve one-year terms: board chair, Jeffrey Morrill; vice chair, Sharon Davis; treasurer, Edward French; assistant treasurer, Carolyn Kedersha; and secretary, Brenda Boisvert.


HEALTHCARE

The Family Center program at Families First Health and Support Center — a network of community health centers serving Portsmouth, Somersworth, Epping and Exeter — has been designated as a Family Resource Center of Quality by the Wellness and Primary Prevention Council for its demonstration of exemplary practice building family strengths.

Granite VNA has named Shaz Anwar as hospice medical director. Anwar will oversee the agency’s hospice medical services and provide clinical support and education for staff.

Catholic Medical Center has received a quality achievement award in the American Heart Association’s GoldPlus Get With The Guidelines recognition program. CMC was cited for its commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines, ultimately leading to more lives saved and reduced disability.

Elliot Health System has received the American Heart Association’s Get With the Guidelines Resuscitation Silver Award for its commitment to quality in treating inhospital cardiac arrest, ultimately helping to improve survival rates. Elliot Health System received the award for meeting specific measures in newly born patients who experience cardiac arrest at Elliot Hospital.

The American Health Care Association and the National Center for Assisted Living recently presented Bedford Falls, a Benchmark assisted living and Mind & Memory Care community, a 2022 Bronze Commitment to Quality Award.

Lisa Lamphere, coordinator of the New Hampshire Victims’ Compensation Program and Address Confidentiality Program, has been elected president of The National Association of Crime Victim Compensation Boards in Washington, D.C.
