New Hampshire residents are feeling worse off than they did a year ago when it comes to the economy, with nearly a third of them expecting things will get worse next year, according to a newly released survey conducted for the Business & Industry Association of New Hampshire.

Almost two-thirds of people with household incomes below $75,000 a year said their own finances were worse off now than a year ago, while 43 percent of those with incomes above $75,000 said they were worse off.

The BIA Report on Consumer Confidence, conducted by the University of NH Survey Center, also found that just 17 percent of respondents expect 2023 to be brighter, the lowest level recorded in the survey since the Great Recession. — JEFF FEINGOLD
