TO shed light on migration into and out of each state, North American Van Lines — a relocation moving company — released findings in their 2022 Moving Migration Report, which found that 46 percent of movers in New Hampshire went inbound, and 54 percent moved outbound to other states. Retaining those moving to other states is a challenge most employers and educational institutions are hoping to solve in the near future.

U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data showed that 50 million U.S. workers left their jobs voluntarily in 2022, on top of the 4.8 million who quit their jobs in 2021. Recent Robert Half insights shared that retention is stronger when companies prioritize employee wellness, embrace flexibility and remote options, invest in professional development and institute succession planning.

NEARLY half of all U.S. employees are employed by a small business, according to Forbes Advisor. Small businesses employ 61.7 million workers across the country, which is 46.4 percent of all U.S. employees. Small businesses have also added 12.9 million jobs over the past 25 years, showing just how vital they are to the backbone of the business economy.

AS we enter a new year, a 2022 review from Gallup paints an ominous picture with employee engagement: U.S. employee engagement fell to a seven-year low with 32 percent of employees engaged and 17 percent actively disengaged at work. As one of the biggest threats to organizations’ profitability, organizations should work proactively to improve employee engagement in 2023.

CONSUMER spending has grown since the pandemic has abated somewhat, and WalletHub’s Consumer Spending report offers some interesting insights. In 2021, 33.8 percent of an individual’s expenses was spent on housing, followed by transportation at 16.4 percent, food 12.4 percent, and personal insurance 11.8 percent. Additionally, holiday spending reached $936.3 billion nationwide in 2022, up from $889.3 billion in 2021.
