AS of September, only 13.2 percent of 18-year-olds in New Hampshire are registered to vote, far lower than rates elsewhere in the country, based on a report from The Civics Center. Lebanon and Portsmouth have the highest percentage of 18-year-olds registered to vote (20 and 18 percent, respectively), while Manchester and Keene have the lowest percentage (5 percent and 3 percent, respectively).

THE Civics Center also reported that, in every presidential election from 2004 to 2020, more than 75 percent of registered 18- to 24-year-olds voted nationwide. In the 2018 midterms, 66 percent of registered youth (ages 18-24) nationwide voted.

THE economy remains the top issue for voters, according to the Pew Research Center, with 79 percent of survey respondents saying it will be very important to their voting decisions. Inflation remains the dominant economic concern for Americans, where the top three concerns are for food and consumer goods (73 percent), gasoline and energy (69 percent), and the cost of housing (60 percent).

ADULTS under 30 are now more likely to trust information from social media sites as they trust information from national news outlets, according to findings published by the Pew Research Center. Fifty percent of 18- to 29-year-olds in the U.S. say they have some or a lot of trust in the information they get from social media sites, just under the 56 percent who say the same about information from national news organizations, but below the 62 percent who get information from local news organizations.

ANOTHER Pew Research Center survey found that a growing number of young adults get their news regularly from popular social media site TikTok. About a quarter of Americans under 30 (26 percent) say they regularly get news from TikTok, higher than in 2021 and 2020. This compares with 10 percent of those ages 30 to 49, 4 percent of those 50 to 64 and just 1 percent of those 65 and older.
