BUILDING CIVIC STRENGTH: NH COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS WITH LAURA KNOY

WHAT: How can a citizen ensure that sources of information are accurate and fair? What effects does misinformation have on community decision-making and debate? How can we express disagreement while keeping our ability to work with each other to respond to problems? Why is it important to deeply understand ideas and opinions different from your own? These topics and more will be discussed during this event, hosted by Laura Knoy of NHPR. Panelists include: Anna Brown, director of research and analysis, Citizens Count; Lovey Roundtree Oliff, Exeter Select Board member and host of the PodCaste System podcast; Bruce Mallory, NH Listens co-founder, co-Author of the NH Civic Health Index; Aaron Blais, Exeter High School social studies teacher and veteran; and Kaitlin Rocca, Exeter High School student and member of NH Civic Learning Coalition.

DEI FROM TALK TO ACTION: BUILDING A HIGH-PERFORMANCE, INCLUSIVE CULTURE

WHAT: At this event, business leaders will develop an enhanced understanding of what DEI is from a business perspective, how it can improve organizational performance as well as practical steps they can take away to create a powerful, creative, innovative and supportive culture. This three-part program will feature an opening overview from James McKim, managing partner at Organizational Ignition and author of the new book, “The Diversity Factor: Igniting Superior Organizational Performance.” Then, a panel of consultants specializing in DEI and moderated by Lisa Carter, owner of Drinkwater Marketing, will dive into a broad overview of the field as seen across their many clients in New Hampshire and beyond. Finally, a panel of DEI officers from New Hampshire companies, moderated by Zaineb Haider, Senior Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Advisor at Cigna, will share their practical experiences in leading their companies’ DEI efforts.

Wear your best derby hat or bowtie, watch the race and enjoy a wonderful evening. Proceeds go towards programs at Touchstone Farm, a Lyndeborough-based educational and therapeutic nonprofit that is positively changing lives through partnerships between horses and people.

ANNUAL LEGISLATIVE DINNER

WHEN: Monday, May 9, 5 – 8 p.m.

WHERE: LaBelle Winery, 345 NH Route 101, Amherst

WHAT: The Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce and Fidelity present the Annual Legislative Dinner, which brings together leaders of the business community and elected officials to help form productive relationships that will enhance the legislature’s ability to enact sound policies. The program will feature a moderated panel discussion between members of the House and Senate. Each legislator will have the opportunity to give brief remarks followed by a panel discussion on the key policy issues in front of the Legislature this year. Attendees will be able to submit or ask questions of the panel at the event. The dinner also gives attendees the opportunity to become more familiar with the Chamber’s priorities in the area of government affairs and advocating for our member businesses.
