NEW Hampshire ranks No. 9 as one of the most innovative states, according to a recent WalletHub study. Methodology for this study included the state’s access to human capital, including share of STEM professionals, and innovation environment, including research and development spending per capita, invention patents per capita, number of startups, entrepreneurial activity and much more.
IN the same study, it was projected that nearly $600 billion will be spent on research and development in the U.S., more than any other country in the world, ranking No. 3 on the Global Innovation Index. The most innovative state is the District of Columbia, and Mississippi was ranked as the least innovative state in the U.S.
THE U.S. population in multigenerational households has nearly quadrupled since 1971, based on Pew Research Center findings. Nearly 60 million people live in households with at least two generations of adults 25 and older or grandparents and grandchildren younger than 25. That’s 18 percent of the U.S. population.
OF those living in multigenerational households, 40 percent cite financial issues as the reason behind living with relatives. Of those living with adult family members, 58 percent say it’s convenient most of the time, whereas 23 percent find it stressful. Nearly a third (31 percent) that live in multigenerational homes are young adults between ages 25 and 29.
RENTERS across the U.S. have seen the average rent rise 18 percent over the last five years, outpacing inflation, according to consumer price index data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The U.S. Census Bureau found that in 2020, 46 percent of American renters spent 30 percent or more of their income on housing, including 23 percent who spent at least 50 percent of their income this way.
