EDUCATION

Colby-Sawyer College President Susan D. Stuebner has been elected to serve on the board of directors of the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities. Stuebner will represent the New England region, one of eight national regions designated by the NAICU, and its 84 member institutions.

Through a $25,000 grant from the inaugural Northeast Big Data Innovation Hub Seed Fund Program, Plymouth State University is preparing to equip its students, in all majors, with data analytics skills. PSU, one of 19 institutions to receive funding, said it will be developing a Data Analytics Learning Community and is offering an interdisciplinary course during the spring semester that blends data analytics with traditional history coursework.

New England College has hired Josh Staley as its new director of esports. Staley previously served as director of esports at Keuka College in Keuka Park, N.Y., where he also served as a full-time professor of psychology.

HEALTHCARE

Catholic Charities NH, which operates seven skilled nursing facilities statewide, has created the Pathways program, offering career development and advancement opportunities for New Hampshire residents seeking a career in healthcare. The program offers education opportunities and resources for or entry-level candidates and unit aides seeking a Licensed Nursing Assistant license; scholarships for LNAs seeking to attend a fulltime Licensed Practical Nurse degree program at Harmony Health Care Institute in Merrimack; and scholarship opportunities for LPNs seeking Registered Nurse degrees.

Pediatric Therapy Center, Nashua, has named Melissa H. White its deputy director. Prior to joining PTC, White served as chief operating officer/chief program officer for Crotched Mountain Foundation. PTC recently opened a new Concord clinic to join its other locations in Nashua, Salem and Manchester.

The Mental Health Center of Greater Manchester has received a $4 million grant from the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to implement comprehensive mental health and substance use treatment by becoming a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic. Much of the funding will be earmarked to help support programs that provide community-based intensive engagement and case management services that are based on improving the client’s social determinants that put them at risk, the center said.

FINANCIAL SERVICES

John R. Young, who has served as president and CEO of New Hampshire Federal Credit Union for 27 years, has announced plans to retire at the end of 2021. He has worked at NHFCU for a total of over 35 years, and in his tenure led the credit union from a $60 million organization to nearly $315 million today.

Martha Clifford has been promoted to branch and business development manager of Meredith Village Savings Bank’s Plymouth Main Street location.

Gary W. Pelletier of Northeast Planning Associates in Nashua and Robert Bonfiglio and Brent Kiley of Rise Private Wealth Management, Bedford, were recently recognized by Forbes as one of the 2021 Best-in-State Wealth Advisors. The list recognizes financial advisors who have demonstrated high levels of ethical standards, professionalism and success in the business.

Mark Danahy has joined New Hampshire Mutual Bancorp as senior vice president of residential lending. Danahy previously served as president and CEO at KeyBank Mortgage, based in Cleveland, Ohio, and in executive leadership roles at Citibank and PHH Mortgage, based in Mt. Laurel, N.J.

Primary Bank has hired Lana Constantino as assistant vice president and branch manager. She was previously a branch manager for Triangle Credit Union in Nashua.

Charles Dowd has joined Meredith Village Savings Bank as vice president of residential mortgage sales. He is based out of MVSB’s main office in Meredith.

Laconia-based Bank of New Hampshire has announced a series of promotions: Eric Carter has been named senior vice president, digital solutions and innovation officer; Jen Goddard has been named assistant vice president, Bank Secrecy Act compliance officer; Lisa Dauphine has been named vice president, project management officer; Martha Hughes is now vice president, digital sales and service manager; and Tiffany Baert is now vice president, marketing officer. In addition, the bank has announced it has hired Kerstyn Flack as assistant vice president and manager of the Dover office, and Tammie Mahoney has returned as assistant vice president, mortgage loan officer in the Laconia office.

Amy Mavris has been promoted to assistant vice president, marketing communications officer for New Hampshire Mutual Bancorp, a mutual holding company whose affiliates are Meredith Village Savings Bank, Merrimack County Savings Bank, Savings Bank of Walpole and NH Trust.

RETAIL

Taste of New England, a new Dover-based company, has opened for business, offering New England-made subscription boxes that showcase the region’s products. Taste of New England owner Angela Mills said she sees her business as a way to impact the area’s small businesses and artisans and highlight Main Street businesses that may be suffering from lack of more traditional sales.

Keene-based Frisky Cow Gelato has expanded its operation to a new 1,500-squarefoot production/retail facility at Union Place in Keene. The company, which produces a small-batch gelato made from local ingredients, is currently outfitting the new space to continue production there beginning in March 2021. The business, which makes homemade gelato for wholesale distribution in New Hampshire, Vermont and Massachusetts, says its sales increased by 65% since the pandemic began. In addition to about 1,100 square feet of production space, the new operation has about 400 square feet of retail space. The retail space will be open for limited hours for customers to stop by and pick up both specialty and signature FCG flavors. Look for hours on the FCG website soon.

CONSTRUCTION

Epping-based EnviroVantage has added Beth Cummings to its staff headquarters. Cummings, who has an extensive background in both project and operational management in the construction industry, has overseen commercial, residential and remediation projects around New England.

BUSINESS ORGANIZATIONS

Merrimack Valley SCORE has been honored with the NH/VT SCORE Chapter of the Year Award for outstanding performance in 2020. The award is presented in recognition of exceptional growth in the services provided to local entrepreneurs, a wide range of free workshops and face-to-face free mentoring. The chapter was also awarded Platinum status, the highest annual chapter award for delivering performance and quality outcomes that are fundamental to SCORE’s success and sustainability.

TECHNOLOGY

Claremont-based IT firm Red River has launched a new, highly competitive scholarship program for Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification, open to students currently enrolled in a historically Black college or university. The course covers the knowledge and skills required to design, install, operate and troubleshoot a small- to mediumsized enterprise branch network. Dan McGee, chief operations officer at Red River, said the firm recognizes that Black workers with bachelor’s degrees remain significantly under-compensated in relation to equally educated white workers.

Rainie Kleckner has joined Portsmouthbased Kemberton, a provider of technology-enabled revenue cycle management services to hospitals, as chief customer officer. Kleckner previously was vice president of sales at GeBBS Healthcare Solutions, and before that worked for 23 years with Conifer Health Solutions and its predecessor entities of ARS, Perot Systems and Dell RCM.

ADVERTISING AND MARKETING

Public relations and strategic communications firm Montagne Powers has hired Taylor Livingston and Jessica Knight as assistant account executives. Prior to joining Montagne Powers, Livingston was a public relations specialist at cybersecurity firm Acronis, and Knight previously worked as a multimedia journalist for KMVT in Twin Falls, Idaho, and at a public relations agency in Detroit, Mich.

BUSINESS AND CONSUMER SERVICES

Ohm Lifestyle Center in Wolfeboro is now offering Cryoskin treatments, a non-invasive weight loss tool that uses a specialized device to warm the temperature of the skin in targeted areas and then rapidly lower the temperature of fat cells, which reduces fat permanently without harming surrounding tissue, the center said. It is one of the few facilities in the Northeast to offer the treatment, according to Ohm.

Ohio-based Davey Tree Expert Company has acquired Chippers Inc., of Woodstock, Vt. Employing over 90 people, Chippers has been serving northern New England since 1986, with offices in Woodstock as well as Enfield and Meredith in New Hampshire. The firm’s areas of expertise are arboriculture, turf and soil care, gardening, land enhancement, forestry and maple syrup. Mundy Wilson Piper, president and CEO of Chippers, will remain as a consultant for six months, while Jason Eaton in sales and Travis Vickerson in operations will continue to have lead roles under Davey.

ENGINEERING

Pam Hall, chair of the board of Bedfordbased Normandeau Associates, has been presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award, and the firm has been given a 50-Year Recognition Award, by the Environmental Business Journal. Hall began her career with Normandeau in 1971 and was CEO of the company for 32 years. During her tenure, she led the company’s growth to become a nationwide firm and oversaw the company’s shift to 100% employee ownership in 2000.

Jonathan Devine has joined TFMoran as a survey field technician in the firm’s Bedford office. Devine is a recent graduate of Montana State University, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering and has an Engineer in Training certification from the state of New Hampshire.

FOOD AND AGRICULTURE

Limoncello producer Fabrizia Spirits, Salem, is introducing frozen versions of its handcrafted, ready-to-drink, canned cocktails with the addition of Fabrizia Frozen Italian Lemonade, Fabrizia Frozen Italian Margarita and Fabrizia Frozen Italian Breeze. The 100mL frozen cocktails follow the same recipes as the canned versions.

GOVERNMENT

Applications are being accepted through March 24 by the New Hampshire Supreme Court from engineers and land surveyors interested in becoming a member of the state’s newly created Housing Appeals Board. The term runs through June 30, 2024. For more information, visit jobs.nhfirst.nh.gov.

Jim Usseglio, a principal in Baker Newman Noyes’ New Hampshire office, has been named to the Taxpayer Advocacy Panel, a federal advisory committee that serves as a voice and outreach resource for issues between the general public and the IRS.

The regional accounting firm of Nathan Wechsler & Company has added CPA Renee Beauchemin to its team. Beauchemin has worked in the public accounting field since 2013 and specializes in serving clients in the manufacturing and insurance sectors.

REAL ESTATE

Dan Scanlon and Vickie Zgonis of Colliers’ Manchester office have announced the lease of 29,100 square feet of office and warehouse space at 55 Wentworth Ave., Londonderry, to GiftCash, which operates a platform that’s designed to offer a space to buy unused gift cards. The company is relocating from Hooksett as part of its growth plans. Scanlon and Zgonis represented the landlord, Adamian Realty Trust, and Cassandra Farley and Matt Bacon, of SVN The Masiello Group, represented the tenant.

The Glendale Cabins in Gilford, which includes a year-round main house and seven seasonal cottages near Lake Winnipesaukee in Gilford, has been sold, reports Gail DiGangi of Roche Realty Group, who worked with both the seller and buyer.

RE/MAX Bayside’s Commercial Division has announced the sale of Richaven Cottage, a waterfront cottage colony, on Weirs Boulevard in Laconia. Ron Talon and Russ Poirier were the listing agents for the transaction.

Massachusetts-based real estate law firm, Touchstone Closing, is opening a new retail closing office at 245 Main St., Salem. Peter E. Smith of Atkinson, an attorney with 15 years of real estate experience and newly named Touchstone partner, will head the Salem office.

TECHNOLOGY

Nashua-based Datanomix, a vendor of production intelligence software for industrial manufacturers, has introduced Fusion Gemba, a new offering that it says streamlines continuous improvement operations and planning, with a focus on the Gemba lean manufacturing approach to such projects. The product includes a digital Gemba board that Datanomix says is a real-time indicator of key factory metrics around safety, quality, delivery, cost and Inventory.

TELECOMMUNICATIONS

Erik Garr has been named executive vice president of Consolidated Communications and president of the company’s small and medium-sized business unit. Garr, who will be in Manchester, will lead the company’s consumer and small business channels, including the go-to-market strategy associated with the company’s fiber build expansion. He most recently served as vice president at Policygenius and before that was director of strategy and operations at Google Cloud.

IT systems provider Connection has been named Hewlett Packard Enterprise Federal GreenLake Partner of the Year for its “commitment and collaboration in advancing their customers’ IT-as-aservice experience aligned to capacity usage,” said Joe Ayers, vice president and general manager, U.S. East sales at HPE.

NONPROFITS

Dia Kalakonas, senior director of communications and client engagement at Cookson Communications, Manchester, has joined the board of directors of the PLUS Company, an organization dedicated to maximize the independence of individuals with disabilities.

The deadline is Wednesday, April 14, for community organizations and local governments to apply for AARP New Hampshire’s 2021 Community Challenge grant program. Grants are used to fund quick-action projects that can range from several hundred dollars for small, shortterm activities to several thousand or tens of thousands for larger projects. The program is part of AARP’s nationwide Livable Communities initiative, which supports the efforts of cities, towns, neighborhoods and rural areas to become great places to live for people of all ages. Concord-based CATCH Neighborhood Housing has received a $20,000 grant from the Lincoln Financial Foundation in support of its collaborative housing education program, HOMEteam, a partnership of CATCH, NeighborWorks Southern New Hampshire and Lakes Region Community Developers that provides New Hampshire residents with tools and education for purchasing, renting and maintaining a home.

Families Flourish Northeast, a newly established New Hampshire nonprofit, has been formed to address the need for a residential treatment center for pregnant and parenting women in the Upper Valley. Although the impact of the opioid crisis on pregnant and parenting women and their children continues to grow, treatment availability does not match the need in rural communities, the organizers said, and most programs do not allow women to bring their children with them. The United Way of Greater Nashua’s recent third annual Blizzard Blast, held virtually this year, attracted over 100 runners and 214 donors, raising a record $24,711 to support the United Way’s Covid-19 Relief Fund.

Concord Hospital Trust, the philanthropic arm of Concord Hospital, recently elected Charles Fanaras chair of its board and Muriel Schadee as vice chair. In addition, Kimberlee G. Burgess has been named as a new trustee on the board.

NH LAKES, formerly the New Hampshire Lakes Association, has named Bruce Freeman as the new chair of its board of directors.

Meredith Village Savings Bank has purchased $25,000 in tax credits through the New Hampshire Community Development Finance Authority to support the Mill City Park project in Franklin. Funds will help support the organization’s goal of developing both land and water components into a whitewater park along the Winnipesaukee River adjacent to downtown Franklin, the first of its kind in New England.

NeighborWorks Southern New Hampshire has received a $50,000 grant from Eastern Bank Charitable Foundation to help keep low-income families safely housed in quality, affordable rental housing in southern New Hampshire.

The Manchester-based Granite State Organizing Project is one of six organizations in New England to receive $20,000 “Healthy Community, Healthy Youth” grants from the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation. The grants were awarded as part of the foundation’s initiative to listen to, learn from and engage youth of color leaders as they envision their own community’s needs.

The Born To Run Foundation, founded in 2013 by Manchester resident Noelle Lambert, has made its 12th prosthesis donation, this one to Amelia Ditmar-Maggs, 21, a below-the-knee amputee from Orono, Maine. She was presented with her new prosthetic running blade at the Ultimate Sports Academy in Manchester. She lost her right foot in a car accident in December 2019.

Tom Thomson, operator of the Thomson Family Tree Farm in Orford, has been named to the Forestry Committee of the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests, which is responsible for advising the board of trustees on managing the natural resources of forests on the society’s feeowned reservations.

The Capital Region Food Program, Concord, recently distributed nearly two tons of nonperishable food items to 14 area social service agencies, food pantries and churches as part of the program’s Year-Round Distribution Project. Agencies receiving food included Blueberry Express Day Care, Boscawen Congregational Church Food Pantry, CenterPoint Food Pantry, Christ the King Food Pantry, Concord Human Services, Epsom Food Pantry, Friends of Forgotten Children, Gospel Light Church of God Food Pantry, Loudon Food Pantry, Merrimack Valley Day Care, Pittsfield Food Pantry, St. Paul’s Church Food Pantry, Suncook/Allenstown Community Action Program (CAP) and The Salvation Army.
