Manchester-Boston Regional Airport has reached a deal with a Maryland developer to build a new multi-tenant cargo building just off the primary runway that could double the airport’s cargo facility space.

Maryland-based Aeroterm, which owns 110 properties at 36 airports, will be building an approximately 100,000-square-foot building with three wide-body aircraft parking positions.

Cargo handling at the airport has increased from about 194 million pounds in 2019 to 212 million pounds last year, thanks in part to the continued increase in e-commerce. The company has two years to find a tenant and another three years to build the facility, but Airport Director Ted Kitchens said he’s optimistic the project will come together before then.

Right now, UPS operates out of an approximately 25,000-square-foot building and FedEx and other companies occupy two additional buildings with about 50,000 square feet combined.

In 2019, MHT ranked in the top 50 airports in the United States for cargo shipping and receiving, according to the airport.
