Groundbreaking held for ‘life plan community’ set for 2021

Edgewood Senior Solutions Group of North Andover, Mass., has officially closed on the purchase of land in Londonderry’s Woodmont Commons, where the organization plans to build The Baldwin, a senior living community.

The design of the community capitalizes on the intergenerational aspect of the development and will include a variety of amenities, some of which will be open to the public. Edgewood Senior Solutions group closed on the land this week, and groundbreaking is set for 2021.

Architectural designer is the DiMella Shaffer firm of Boston. Edgewood called The Baldwin, a “life plan community,” which will have 190 independent living apartments for adults age 62 and up, onsite healthcare services and other amenities, including a fitness center, multiple dining venues and an art studio and gallery. Groundbreaking is scheduled for 2021.

“Finalizing our purchase of the land is an important next step in bringing The Baldwin to life,” said Marlene Rotering, CEO of The Baldwin and its sister community, Edgewood Retirement Community in North Andover.

Rotering called The Baldwin’s location in Woodmont Commons “a massive mixed-use development in Londonderry, (which) adds a valuable intergenerational dimension you don’t find in most senior living communities.”
