1. The New Hampshire Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NHSPCA) held a groundbreaking ceremony at their location in Stratham, marking the beginning of 6,700 square feet of interior renovations, two additions totaling 4,900 square feet and mechanical, electrical and plumbing requirements for a new 9,500-square-foot riding arena and 3,000-square-foot horse barn.

2. Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield held several volunteer day activities last month, focused on addressing hunger as part of Hunger Action Month. Anthem volunteers helped the Granite United Way package weekend bags of food and fresh produce that were distributed to 500 families in Manchester.

3. Plymouth State University senior Kyle Hall, from Easton, Mass., is leading a team of students who are sewing cloth face masks to distribute to students, faculty and staff. The Marketing Association of Plymouth State University has already sewn and given out 2,000 masks with no plans to stop anytime soon.

4. Two temperature kiosks made by Orion Entrance Control, a Laconia-based manufacturer, were delivered recently to LRGHealthcare, to be placed at Lakes Region General Hospital and Franklin Regional Hospital.

5. Catholic Medical Center’s New England Heart & Vascular Institute recently implanted the first WATCHMAN FLX, a device that dramatically reduces the risk of stroke in patients who have non-valvular atrial fibrillation. 6. Brenda Christiansen-Leone, a licensed nursing assistant with BAYADA Hospice in Concord, received the prestigious New Hampshire Healthcare Heroes Award, which is sponsored by the NH Sector Partnership initiative to recognize healthcare heroes on the front lines.

7. Joanne Conroy, MD, CEO of Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health, received the Rotary International Paul Harris Recognition for her service to the City of Lebanon.

8. The Greater Nashua Chamber of Commerce announced it honored Helen Honorow and William “Bill” Barry as its 2020 Citizens of the Year. The award was presented to them Oct. 8 at the chamber’s virtual gala. Helen and Bill are partners in their legal firm Barry & Honorow PLLC. Between them they have served countless organizations throughout the greater Nashua area.

9. First Seacoast Bank returns as the underwriter of Apple Harvest Day, which will take place on Oct. 17 at Restoration Church in Dover. The event will be a full day of entertainment, including a kids’ show in the morning with juggler Bryson Lang and WOKQ’s Apple Pie Contest in the afternoon with a performance by Acoustic Radio.
